Hi Happy Scrappers!
Polly Liana here, sharing a few ideas about how to document a year of growth. If you’ve ever ventured out with a baby, you know that everyone is constantly telling you how fast they grow. I got the warning so many times, I decided I needed to do some documenting of monthly growth and change. In this case, I’m using my baby, Phoebe who was born last April. When her big sister Morgan was born a few years ago, I would document her growth by taking a photo of her in our blue chair every month….
When Phoebe was born, I knew I wanted to do the blue chair thing again but I wanted to add to it so I could use it like a baby book. I used the blue chair photo as one of the main photo but then surrounded it with other photos and monthly facts about her growth. It was a great way to capture a “slice” of her growth that month. In the end, I’m making a photo book with each of the months in it so when she gets older she can see the different ways she grew that year.
For this project, I started out using some of our great PL pages, like the ones here:
Then, I moved into other types of photo collages, like these:
I ended up using The Lilypad’s Build Your Own Collab (BYOC) each month, since it was so well coordinated and there was such a great variety of products. It also gives a unique seasonal feel to each page.
Check out September’s cool autumn groove:
versus the cool spring vibe from March…
Remember, this document-your-year approach is not just for babies. It can be for dogs, children, gardens, cooking projects, etc. I loved how structured it was: every month I would sit down, collect recent photos and reflect on her growth. With just a bit of work each month, I now have a wonderful collection of memories and documentation that our family can treasure forever. Hope I’ve given you a little kick in the tush to get out there and start documenting!
Happy Scrapping!
