In the past (pre digital era), scrapbooks were put together, each page with love and glue. The page was done and in an album. Some were filled with just photos-others glued on paper and put in page protectors and placed in a 3 ring binder. As each page is completed, it either is made in the album, or placed into that binder. These are great, and some people will say to redo them and make digital pages.
That is a goal. Today, I know many of you have pages upon pages made with so much love and are on your computer hidden. This blog is to help you bring light to those pages you created and the JOY you collected making them to be expounded on and made into a book.
I am forever encouraging people to print their books. When you get it all ordered and it shows up, the wow factor will be addictive. I have so many pages with big errors, some words that go right off the edge. I would hear “make sure you leave a bleed” What?
This made my head go, “Forget it, this is too hard!” Let me explain what they are talking about. I print all my books in 10×10 or 8×8. (I do this because they fit in the lap of kids, and seem to hold up better than 12×12). I use Shutterfly and this is their Design & Specs
This means, I need to remember that the 1/4 inch all around my page may be cut off, it bleeds off the page into never never land. Here is an example of my Covid-19 Project Life book and the bleeds that I failed tremendously:
- first one; the words cut off and and almost got the exclamation point element too!
- This was a report about Covid in my state (on the Navajo Nation) and although you can figure it out, it is missed information. I went to close to the edge and it was cut off.
- Again was too close to the edge. These pages are a learning process for me, because I want people to read the journaling. I put a whole lot of effort into the words to convey the emotions of the page/photo/moment.
I looked at this page in the gallery, and this side looks pretty good. I scratched my head and was confused. Then I looked at the right side of the page in the gallery-no bleed, and I lost the left side due to the bleed.
The templates in our store are fabulous for the bleed. I used so many of them. I get into trouble when I mess with the journaling blocks! Now, this is in my brain, watch the bleed and you will have gorgeous journaling ready to read:
That is what YOU want for your bleed! Makes is so nice to read! (notice also, I have a stroke on the font, and brought the opacity down so it can be read easily).
Let’s stop the bleeding of your beautiful pages cut off and lost to the home of socks from the dryer! Upload some of your pages, and from this point on, lets bring everything in at least 1/4 inch from the edge, so nothing is lost!
