Some people can create and actually feel freer in their creative process in the midst of chaos. Clutter can actually shut down and hinder others from completing simple tasks. The overwhelming feelings of disorder, stop the JOY of creating for many. I am one of those people. I love order, and minimalization. Less STUFF! The “reset” of CoVid shut downs, caused me to re-evaluate my house. I had spent the first 6 months, gaining weight, both on my body and in my house. The feeling of hoarding; toilet paper, coffee, meat, paper and about everything invaded our home.
I found an amazing YouTube channel; the Minimal Mom. My daughter (mom to 2 under 3), was getting into how to clean with toddlers everywhere and got me hooked. I was overwhelmed, and forcing myself to sit and create (my favorite thing to do for me). My kitchen and pantry were overflowing. My back patio was a dumping ground for “get to this later”. I highly recommend starting with Too Overwhelmed to Start? Declutter with Me!
I started with my back patio, and it was like an energizer! It moved to my pantry, to my kitchen and then into my office! <insert scary music>
With CoVid, I have 2 kids home with virtual school, and one needs to be close to me. So he is in the office with me, and oozes into my desk. LOL! For years, I have had the thought, I need my pens and little Knick knacks all out and close to me. I have been trying to love my little Knick knacks and give them away to others. I hate, hate, hate moving them to clean. I cleaned out my desk, completely, everything came out! Then had a box for give away, a bag for trash and a table set up for keep and picked up everything, and when it was put down, it was either gone or in a like pile to keep.
A trip to our local Dollar Tree for baskets (3 baskets for $1) made my drawers much nicer.
Then scrubbed the top of my desk, dusted everything, and swept and mopped my floor. I was getting so energize, and could barely wait to sit down at my nice clean desk!
I lite a nice candle, got a big jug of water, and smiled. It was the best feeling. I sat down, and did 12 pages in less than 24 hours! Creating in an orderly office is wonderful. I hope I encouraged you to do the same!
