Make It Monday Shirt Card
Hi y’all! I hope you are enjoying the spring as much as I am. The sun is shining brighter and for longer periods which keeps me energized enough to make more cards ???? Polly Robin here to share with you another Make It Monday blog post. Today I’m going to show you how I make a shirt front card. I know this technique has been around for a very long time, but it was my first time trying it, and it won’t be my last. I found the perfect set of papers in the store – Mad for Plaid papers by Sahlin Studio:
Aren’t these adorable? They look like flannel!
I did some research on Pinterest and Youtube to see how these shirts came together and then created a cut file so that all I need to do is put my paper on my mat and let my machine do the work. I did color code my shapes so it would be easier to know where to put my paper. The grey colored shapes will be cut from my black cardstock and the blue ones from my patterned paper. Don’t forget, you don’t need a machine to make this card, but if you have a Scan N Cut, feel free to message me at The Lilypad and I’ll be happy to share my fcm file with you. Here are the dimensions (in inches) you would need if you wanted to replicate my exact card:
My finished size is 4.125 x 5.75 which is a weird size but was easy to if that helps!
On to the actual card making! First, I printed my paper and then loaded it into my machine. After it finished cutting, I glued the patterned pieces to their mats like this:
I assembled them by first adding the placket to the right side of the large rectangle, adding the collar to the top, stamping “Happy Birthday” on my kerchief, placing it behind the pocket, and gluing that pocket under the collar. All that was left was to put my card on the card base and adhere 3 buttons and the card was done:
Isn’t it cute? I liked it so much that I made another one but without the sentiment:
I love having a few extra blank cards around so that I can add whatever sentiment I need at the time.
Y’all, this card was super fast to make, and I love the endless possibilities. I can use plaid for my outdoorsy friends, Hawaiian for my traveling ones, and a business casual plaid for my working friends. I hope you give this a try. Don’t forget that if you use FCM files, I can share mine with you if you message me in the forum. No worries if you don’t have a machine as this is super easy to cut out with nothing more than a trimmer since you have all the dimensions! Thanks for looking and I can’t wait to see if any cards show up in the gallery at The Lilypad!
