Make It Monday Anniversary Card

Welcome to another Make It Monday Blog Post. Polly Robin here today and I wanted to show you a Floating card I made for my niece’s anniversary. It’s something I like to do that looks fancy, but it’s actually really easy! Here’s my card I made using with Road to My Heart by Elif Sahin Designs:

I’m not sure you can tell, but the middle section is cut out and the vertical panel attaches the top of the card with the bottom. Let’s see how I went about designing and putting this card together and you’ll see how easy it is.
First, I went to Photoshop and planned everything out. I use this as a rough mock-up just so I can test placement and size of elements as well as pattern papers:

I then printed off an 8×11 PDF with my pattern paper & the two goblets:

I decided to use kraft paper that I had lying around because it’s nice and thick. I cut a 4.25 x 11 inch piece and scored it so that it folds to make a vertical card (so at the 5.5 inch mark). Then, I cut off 4 inches from the bottom of the front leaving a small 1.5 inch thick piece still folded over. With that remaining card front, I cut another strip 1.5 inches x 4.25 inches for the bottom piece. I then cut my pattern paper into strips that were slightly smaller than the corresponding kraft pieces and glued them on.

Next, I fussy cut my goblets out (I’m learning how to do fussy cutting without hating it too much!) and stamped my sentiment with embossing ink onto a piece of white cardstock cut 3 inches wide x 4.25 inches long. I used some gold embossing powder to cover my sentiment and heat set it until it was shiny.
Next, I matted my rectangular piece with kraft paper and glued my goblets on it. I glued this entire piece to the top folding piece of my card and then glued the bottom rectangular strip to the vertical one. I stamped my saying on the inside behind the vertical rectangular piece so that it’s hidden away.

Here’s the finished card. You can see it standing here:
