January 25: Photo Treatment/Technique: Artistic sketch (Photography challenge)

Great. Thank you. I didn't play with all the different options...in fact I rarely use those tabs! Maybe I should.
I've found that playing is very fun. You never know what you'll get, and you can always use the reset button if it gets too messed up. I also found that if you want a more pronounced "edge" is to increase the intensity and/or contrast.

For my Statue of Liberty photo, I kept it in color, then used Filter - Stylize - Show edges, then set the slider to almost the highest level.
I love how this turned out!

Oh do! It is soo much fun. But the picture you pick really does affect it. I first tried with a different photo and it just wasn't working.
what works best, scense, people, busy, lots of colors?
I found it almost depends upon the photo itself, the colors, contrast, simplicity, etc. Some I did looked horrible, others were great. Luckily it's easy enough to undo with a push of a button.

This entire thread is filled with so much eye candy! It's amazing to see. Ya'll are rocking this challenge, and thanks, Farrah, for hosting it. I love learning something new.

Here's mine. I made it in Artisan 5. I used Filter/Stylize/Show Edges/with color. I next enhanced the lines by increasing the intensity Color/Hue/Saturation to 100%, then decreased the opacity to 40%.

The sketching part was easy thanks to your very well-written directions @FarrahJobling I love how mine turned out and I hope I remember to use this technique again.

What took so long was finding a particular photo I wanted, from back in the days before I was captioning or keywording or anything so I had to manually, methodically look through ever folder spanning a few years. And I kept getting distracted by reminiscing! My kids are all two digit ages now, so I forget the sound of their cute little kid voices. I kept clicking on old videos and going "Awwwwww!" :heartlub

Anyway, this assignment inspired me to make an overview of the decade we've spent making use of our library theater for homeschool events, drama rehearsals, and music recitals. Every photo on this page was taken inside the colored portion of my sketch, except the two that were taken just outside the library. I could have made a whole book, I have made so many photos inside this building! After gathering my photos I had to reluctantly delete almost half I'd gathered and it was still a challenge getting the remaining to fit.

:love I love my layout. Thanks for the lesson and inspiration!

Strong lines of contrast, but watch the shadows. The leaf example I posted is not very good as it has too many shades & reflections from the water. The sketch leaves you wondering what all those lines are. I also tried one where everything was in the middle tones; all the detail was lost.

This is a fabulous technique. And I love what people are creating with it! Some serious WOW POWER!

Here is my take:

Here's mine : Thanks for the instructions, I could do the last part (replacing colour) so I just painted over and made it transparent :) I quite like the overall effect :)

We love camping here! :)
It's so pretty there. One of my escapes. But that day you couldn't go anywhere that wasn't plowed and I was sure the path down to the river probably wasn't shoveled but maybe it was (it was also late in the day).
