Hi scrappy friends!!!
I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love getting happy mail. I love sending mail to my friends, too! If you like sending personalized cards and letters, I have a great tutorial for creating mail art envelopes that are sure to delight the recipient.
For creating this mail art envelope I used Bookworms Illustrations by Kate Hadfield, Silhouette Cameo 3, Silhouette sketch pens and KG Skinny Latte font.
To create mail art like this:
-First, create a file the same size as the envelope you’ll be using in Silhouette Studio.
-Type the address of the recipient using your favorite font. (I didn’t use a real address for this tutorial for privacy reasons :))
-Copy and paste a digital file into Silhouette Studio. Digital stamps and doodles in SVG or PNG format work best for this.
-Next, you need to trace the digital image. Open the Trace Panel, click on select trace area, and adjust the threshold until you get the clearest trace. Then click on “trace image”.
-Move the original digital image to the side of your work space so you can work with the traced image.
-Now, in order to create a sketch from this, you will need to create several internal offsets. With the traced image selected, open the offset panel. Click the “internal offset” button, adjust the distance to 0.005 in and click apply. Repeat this several times to get your desired look. I needed to repeat it 3-4 times. It does help to zoom in on your image to see what you’re doing better.
-At this point, you’re ready to send your design to the Silhouette to be sketched. With a sketch all of the red lines are going to be drawn with a pen instead of cut. Make sure you have your desired color of Silhouette pen loaded, place your envelope on a cutting mat and load it into the cutting machine.
-At the top of your workspace, click on “send”. For Action, click “sketch” and click on the button to “send” to your machine.
Now, you can just sit back and watch the Silhouette “sketch” your mail art and address on your envelope!!! (FYI, if I’m sending lots of cards I love using the Silhouette sketch pens to address my envelopes. This comes in really handy at Christmas.)
I decided to use colored pencils to color in the cute little bookworm on my envelope and I loved how it turned out!!!
The next time you’re sending some happy mail to a friend, dive into your digital stash and make some mail art that will give a little extra oomph to your envelope!
