Hello everyone! It’s August which means we are marching towards the end of summer and closer to back to school time for a lot of us. I’m not ready to think about that so let’s think about a brand new batch of challenge at The Lilypad instead!
It’s Polly Karen here and I’m back to show off a new batch of awesome challenges for the month of August. Each month we have 8 brand new challenges that are posted in the forum Challenge Pad on the 1st day of the month. (the BYOC Challenge is posted on the 1st Friday of the month.) You can use the challenges simply to inspire you to keep creating new layouts OR you can also earn yourself a fabulous coupon for your next shopping trip in the Lilypad Store. (2 challenges = 10%, 4 challenges = 20% and 6 challenges = 30%). Those who complete at least 7 challenges will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift certificate! Isn’t that an awesome prize?!?! You’ll get lots of great memories captured in your scrapbooks AND you could win a fat gift certificate prize!!! Pretty great, right?! So let’s take a look at this month’s new batch of challenges!
1. Random Challenge – Jenn (jenn mccabe) is hosting our first challenge for this month and she is challenging you to select a scrapping prompt from one of our Christmas in July threads that was all about Scrapping Prompts. Simply go to THIS THREAD and pick a prompt that speaks to you and create a layout with that prompt in mind. Here’s a great page that Jenn created with the prompt “You are enough”:
2. Scraplift Challenge – The Scraplift Challenge for August is hosted by Heather (HeatherB). She is challenging you to browse in the gallery of either of our two brand new Pollys (winners from the MOC) KarenB and SeattleSheri. Simply select a page that you love and then create your own layout inspired by it. Heather chose a layout made by Sheri and then made her own scraplifted version:

3. Journaling Challenge – The Journaling Challenge for August is hosted by Lori (lcpereyra) and she would like your journaling to focus on something good in your life right now. She’d like to see you write about something good and use a minimum of 5 sentences to talk about that something good. Here’s a great “something good” page created by Lori:
4. Inspiration Challenge – This month’s Inspiration Challenge is hosted by Ashley (ashleywb) and she would like you to draw inspiration from a book cover. You can pick any book cover that you’d like and Ashley suggests browsing somewhere like Pinterest, Amazon or go to the library to browse the shelves for inspiration. You don’t even have to read the book! Here’s a look at the book cover Ashley chose, followed by her layout inspired by her cover:
5. Photography Challenge – Jenn (jk703) is hosting the Photography Challenge for this month and would like you to focus on taking a photo of water. You can take a picture of the kids in a pool, an ocean, river, stream, water slide or even a glass of water! Here’s a great layout Jenn created of a vacation that recently included lots of water:
6. Style Challenge – I (Karen) am pleased to be hosting August’s Style Challenge. For this month I want you to use pieces of two different templates and combine them together on one page to create a unique layout. I chose a template by Scrapping with Liz and then added the awesome scallops from another template by Cheryl of Fiddle Dee Dee Designs and I love how it turned out mixed all together:
7. Template Challenge – Em (Justagirl) is hosting the Template Challenge for August. The challenge is to use the free template supplied by Sara Gleason and create a layout using it. Here’s a look at the free template followed by a sample that Em created:
8. BYOC Challenge – Finally we have the BYOC Challenge. This challenge will be hosted and posted by Natasha (bcnatty) Tomorrow, Friday August 2nd when August’s BYOC Collection will be released in the store. The challenge will be to use 90% of the products on your page from August’s BYOC collection and from at least 3 designers.
Challenge Galleries: (post your pages to these galleries)
There is your at-a-glance overview of this month’s brand new batch of challenges. Once you create your own layouts inspired by these challenges, be sure to post them to the appropriate galleries as listed above. Then be sure to also post them to the appropriate thread in the challenge forum. See the thread HERE for further challenge guidelines and see the August Challenge Pad HERE to get started! Don’t forget to post all of your completed layouts in the Challenge Layouts thread so we can be sure to get you the proper coupon at the end of the month. I’ll be back near the end of the month to shine my spotlight on some of the pages created for these challenges! I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Happy scrapping!
