Pocket Scrapping Meets Art Journaling: Getting Started

Getting started TLP-blog-overlay-600

After I posted about my Snap! Album project last week, I got lots of questions about what I use, and about what other products are available to those that want to do their own version of the project. I thought it would be fun to highlight some of the physical as well as the digital products that could be used to start your own pocket scrapping art journaling project.

First I want to share with you the album that I use. I find that the 6″x8″ size works really well for me. I use the Simple Stories SNAP! album. I love that it comes with a great assortment of different formats of pocket pages as well as some dividers and 6″x8″ patterned pages to incorporate into your project as well.

There are other companies that manufacture albums in this size as well including Studio Calico, October Afternoon and Project Life.

Another possibility for creating a hybrid project would be to use the Project Life Mini album. Each page of this album contains 2 4″x6″ pockets and 2 3″x4″ pockets making it a great choice if you want your pages to hold a little more.

Many pocket scrappers started off using either baseball cards or traditional photo albums and these are both excellent options for this project as well.

Baseball card pockets are really inexpensive, can be picked up at almost any discount store and can be stored in a regular 8.5″x11″ binder making this method really accessible to everyone.

Photo albums are another great way to create an art journal. These also can be found in almost any discount store and one of the best things about photo albums is that they come in such a wide variety of formats and sizes.

If you are interested in creating digital pockets there are lots of great templates available in The Lilypad store that would work well. Not only are there amazing 6″x8″ options but there are other sizes that would work as well, either as is or rearranged to create whatever size you want to work with.

Whether you are creating digitally or hybrid, journaling cards are a wonderful starting point to your pages. Of course there are so many to choose from in the journaling card category of the store. I chose a few that I thought would make a great starting point either because of it’s artistic flair or because I thought they really lended themselves well to personal reflection. Of course there are many many more to chose from and almost any journaling card would make an awesome base for your layouts.

I really hope this helps getting started on your project a little easier. Don’t forget there is still almost another week that you can participate in my first pocket scrapping art journaling challenge and receive a $2.00 coupon to the Little Butterfly Wings store (who has some awesome products that are just perfect for this project). Also, next Sunday I’ll be posting another challenge in the Art Journaling forum which gives you the opportunity to earn another great prize!
