Have you ever gotten to the point where you feel like you have no creativity left? I have been there plenty of times, and I always feel so helpless when I’ve gotten to that point. Often, it’s not even that I don’t want to scrap…I do, I just can’t. Over the last 8 years, I’ve learned a few tricks that I can use along the way to re-ignite the spark when I feel as though it has fizzled out.
- Surround yourself with creative people – That’s easy if you hang out here at The Pad. There are so many awesomely creative people year. If I feel like my spark is out, I spend a little time in the gallery. Looking at the layouts from the amazingly creative people here always seems to get my motor running again. Sometimes I find ideas I want to try out, or layout to lift, and other times I just feel inspired to create looking at what others take time to create.
- Use something new – Another trick I like to use when I feel like my creativity is lacking is that I use something I wouldn’t usually use. For example, I like clean layout…so if I feel like I need to spark my creativity I might try a really element heavy layout. The example that most comes to mind was a while back when I felt like I was hitting a wall, so I decided to start playing with paint and other mixed media items. Now, I use them all of the time.
- Start a project – The last trick I use when I feel like my mojo is gone is that I start a project. Something that has a definitive end goal helps to keep me focused and forces me to be creative even when I feel like I can’t. This is often a win-win situation. I get both my creativity back and I complete a project from a long list of my “someday” projects.
So there are three of my tricks that I use when I need to re-ignite my scrapbooking spark. Are there any tricks you use?
