Do you scrapbook your bad days? Do you scrapbook about things that aren’t so great? Some people do, and some people don’t. The reality is: we all have them. Everyone has bad days, and has not so great things happen to them. They aren’t always easy to talk our journal about, though. So what do we do, as memory keepers, with these memories? If you are inclined to include them, here are three easy ways to get them onto your pages.
- Give the memories a positive spin – Sometimes, it’s easier to think about the positive things associated with bad memories. For example, recently my wife was reassigned to another school, having to leave her friends and the school that has been her home for 10 years. I could have included how upset she was, or how it made us all feel. Instead, I used a picture of the flowers I got her, and wrote about getting her flowers after finding out the bad news. The memory is still there, but what is recorded is a positive aspect of it.
- Have a special place for those types of memories – Recently, I wanted to scrap and journal about the difficulty I was having going through an interview process at school. I knew it wasn’t something that I didn’t want to include in my regular Project Life, so I thought I would include it in the All About Me album I had recently started. I picked up a few products from the store (Not My Day by Emily Merritt and Tough Luck by Quirky Heart) and was able to put together a page quickly where I could record my feelings about the situation.
- Consider a “journaling only” page – Often, writing about these memories will help a person work through them. Rather than create a layout using a picture and embellishments, consider just creating a page where you capture your feelings. Often, these types of pages have a lot of impact and help get the memories on paper without having to worry about the perfect picture.
If you do choose to scrapbook the hard times, hopefully these tips will help you on your way.
