Valentine’s Day is almost upon us and brings to mind hearts, balloons, flowers, candy and chocolate for many. Many take the day to celebrate love of family, friends, pets and anyone special in their lives. There are so many possibilities for journal ideas.
Maybe Valentine’s Day has an additional significance for you; for me, it was the day my husband proposed to me. I was feeling under the weather, having gotten the flu that week, and suffering from a bit of brain-fog, so it took a few minutes to realize that he had an engagement ring for me. This day always reminds me of the start of our journey together. Maybe for you it might have another significance. Is there a promotion, a birthday or something unusual or significant that happened on a past Valentine’s Day?
What about children? Are there any stories from a previous Valentine’s Day to journal about? What about family activities? If your children are in school, do they celebrate with their class? Do they make cards or bring a teacher’s gift?
What about your beloved pet? Did you give them a special treat? Are they included in any outings with you on that day?
Do you celebrate or not? Do you stay home or venture out for a celebration somewhere? What about food? Do you prepare a special meal or treat? Do you buy or receive any special goodies?
These are all topics you can journal about, whether you tell the whole story, jot it down in bullet points or you might even find a poem, quote or song that you can incorporate into your layout.
What about journaling about your feelings? How do you feel about Valentine’s Day? Not everyone celebrates and for some, there may be some unpleasant memories surrounding this day. You might wish to express your thoughts and/or memories, get it into you layout. It can be very therapeutic to get it out of your head and onto your page in words. You can also look ahead, journal about what you hope a future Valentine’s Day might be for you or someone else.
Journal your likes and dislikes about Valentine’s Day and why. Journal about then and now, for yourself or someone else.
Looking back in years, how has Valentine’s Day changed for you? When I was a young adult, I relished the opportunity to dress up, go out with my boyfriend to a restaurant and be pampered with gifts, good food and drinks. I didn’t seem to mind the crowds and lineups. Nowadays, I prefer to stay home with my hubs and just enjoy a quiet night together. A good movie, good company and good food at home sounds perfect to me.
