Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am back to bring you another TLP member spotlight! This month I asked the other Polly’s here at the Pad to help pick a member to spotlight. We chose Kristina aka klee73010 to spotlight. Kristina is a constant in our forum, always there to talk to about scrapping and non-scrapping topics. Her gallery is flooded with beautiful artwork that is sure to inspire! Definitely take a peek at all the cute hybrid projects she has in her gallery! Let’s sit back and take some time to get to know more about Kristina!
Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?
Kristina: Kristina – klee73010
Jewelle: Where do you call home?
Kristina: Apache Junction, Arizona
J: Are you a digital or hybrid scrapbooker? Or both?
K: I scrap digitally, but I am on Kate Hadfield’s creative team specifically for hybrid projects. I enjoy using her products (and others) to make educational activities for my kids (my kids call them “fun things” and ask to do them regularly).
J: How long have you been scrapping?
K: I started in high school, 2002 or 2003 sometime. It has been on and off since then. I made an album of digital scrap pages, as well as a paper one, in 2011 as an anniversary gift. Since then I had done a few digital pages here and there. I really got back into digital scrapping in March of 2015.
J: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?
K: It is different every time. Recently, it’s been the story first. Then I check how many photos I have to tell that story. After that I choose a template and decide on products.
J: How would you describe your style?
K: Messy. All over the place, and full. I feel like I can do anything except “clean and simple”, and only because I feel I do not put enough effort/time into the photography to support that style.
J: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?
K: There’s not any one thing on every page. I like to use paint, stacks of things, and fasteners (stitches, buttons, staples, etc.).
J: Do you have a favorite tip or trick you can share with us?
K: I read about this on another blog last year, but have used it countless times since on my pages. Hhide your sensitive journaling, so you can still get these things off your chest, so to speak, but not necessarily share it with the internet, or anyone else looking at your layouts. I use blend modes, script fonts, the color of the text, or just placing it underneath something else. My art journal pages have literally become my diary of thoughts, but not everything is visible. I can track my emotions by looking at my AJ pages chronologically, which is interesting to no one except me.
J: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?
K: No. On occasion, I have Netflix or Amazon video going, but it is usually quiet when I scrap.
J: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?
K: A beverage… have to have one. Water, coffee, soda, something.
J: What time of day do you feel most creative?
K: I like to scrap in the morning, or at night. Midday is not my strong point – probably because the stress of the day is going on. In the morning, nothing has gone off course yet. At night, I’m done caring if it’s off course, and it helps me calm myself before sleeping.
J: Any pictures of your workplace you would like to share?
K: I have PSE 12, which is to my right, and on the left is where I look at my supplies. I also usually have Evernote up, because I do a large amount of my journaling in Evernote (in order to copy/paste into my layout). I also have 4 notebooks that each have something in them from some point over the last several years of scrapping. I find sometimes things haven’t been migrated to the current BuJo if I’m scrapping something from several years ago, but all current journaling is in Evernote.
J: Share with us your three favorite layouts.
K: I love this one because it was the very first pocket page I’d done that made me think pocket scrapping IS something I can do.
K: I love this recent AJ one. It was a challenge in the M3 forum to invite others to try Art Journaling… this method of expression I will forever claim as the main reason I was able to sort through my own struggle with depression.
K: And finally this one because of the emotional journaling. I can feel my own joy through the words I used to describe my son’s excitement. I’ve made a conscious decision to scrap/journal like this more intentionally going forward.
