TLP Member Spotlight – kaphelps

Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am back to bring you another TLP member spotlight! This month I asked the other Polly’s here at the pad to help pick our member to spotlight. We chose KerriAnne who is an active member both in the forum and the gallery. Lets sit back and take some time to get to know more about KerriAnne.

Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?

KerriAnne: KerriAnne Phelps – kaphelps

Jewelle: Where do you call home?

KerriAnne: Arizona- where it is cloudy and 97 today!

J: Digital or Hybrid? Both?

KA: Mostly digital at this point, but I still do a little hybrid – mostly small books for friends.

J: How long have you been scrapping?

KA: I started in 2004 after my boys were born. The dining room table was used for my supplies and workspace. As the boys got a little older, I realized I could not keep up traditional scrapbooking. In 2008 I took a few digital classes at Jessica Sprague and have been hooked ever since!

J: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?

KA: Almost always the photo. I love photography! Although I am using my cell phone photos more and more I still love to challenge myself with my good camera.

J: How would you describe your style?

KA: Evolving. Still. I am probably at heart, a clean & simple scrapper who’s never met a grid I didn’t love-lol! Having said that, I still do like to get artsy and play with brushes, paint and blending. Someday I would love to try art journaling.

J: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?

KA: A special photo and usually a neutral background.

J: Do you have a favorite tip or trick you can share with us?

KA: I do a lot of Pocket/Project Life layouts and don’t want to spend tons of time editing my photos that are going to go into a small space on a template. Often the photo needs to be brightened a bit so I use this quick fix:

1 Duplicate your photo.

2. Paperclip your two photos together

3. On the top photo change the blending mode to screen and reduce opacity to your liking.

This doesn’t work on all photos but try it sometime- you may be pleasantly surprised!

J: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?

KA: Not usually – I am a fan of quiet when I can get it.

J: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?

KA: I don’t usually eat anything – occasionally Red Vines. I love to have a Starbucks iced coffee while I scrap.

J: What time of day do you feel most creative?

KA: Usually at the end of the day – but if I could get away with it I would scrap anytime of the day!

J: Any pictures of your workplace you would like to share?

KA: Uggg – ok, here you go – this is me today in my office with my messy play area in the background. I may or may not still be in my pjs ;)

J: Share with us your favorite 3 layouts that you’ve created.

This one is just a simple PL page. I like my PL pages to just have a couple of cards & word art with some white space. Simplicity allows me to keep up to date.

I love the black and white photo on this page, and also the grid. I got a little messy with the paint and glitter and even did some heartfelt journaling which is a challenge for me.

This one is a fav because my son took the picture. I used a great template, some gorgeous pattern papers in small pieces and just a bit of paint and elements.
