Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am back to bring you another TLP member spotlight! This month I asked the other Polly’s here at the Pad to help pick a member to spotlight. We chose Jan (aka IntenseMagic) to spotlight. Her beautiful gallery caught our eye and we knew we needed to share it with the community. Let’s sit back and take some time to get to know more about Denise.
Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?
Jan: My name is Jan aka IntenseMagic everywhere in digiland.
Jewelle: Where do you call home?
Jan: I live in Wild Wonderful West Virginia. Go Mountaineers!
J: Digital or Hybrid? Both?
Jan: I do 99.9% digital scrapping, but I enjoy trying my hand at hybrid projects from time to time.
J: How long have you been scrapping?
Jan: I’ve been scrapping for 10 years now, since my youngest was a baby. I stumbled across digiscrapping when my husband was trying to teach me Photoshop, and by teaching me, I mean telling me to go look up tutorials. I’ve been addicted ever since.
J: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?
Jan: Since the majority of my pages are CT work, I would have to say the products. I am really working on scrapping photos of my older children when they were young, so when I get a kit to work with, I try to select from those photos first. They are both grown and I have a lot of catching up to do with them. Sometimes a kit will inspire me to take new photos to work with, maybe something I hadn’t thought to capture.
J: How would you describe your style?
Jan: I am not really sure I have a “style”. I am all over the place and love challenging myself to do something I haven’t done before. I have done art journaling, white space, full pages, pocket scrapping, you name it.
J: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?
Jan: I love paints or splatters of some kind. Also, word bits…love them!!
J: Do you have a favorite tip or trick you can share with us?
Jan: Actions, especially my sharpen and save for the web action. Also, I just recently learned how to open one image in two windows, which is great for when I’m choosing a font for journaling, tweaking a shadow, or editing something small. It allows you to zoom in on the image in one window to do the edits, while being able to see the effect on the overall page in the other window. It saves a lot of time that I used to spend zooming in and out making changes, and it works in PS and PSE. It is fabulous for photo editing as well, especially if you are working on something small like eyes.
For Photoshop:
Go to Window>Arrange>New Window for “yourimage”
Go back to Window>Arrange>2-up Vertical
Then simply zoom in to one of the images to make your edits and see the impact of your edits in the other window.
For PSE:
Go to Window/Images/New Window
Go back to Window/Images/Tile
Then simply zoom in to one of the images to make your edits and see the impact of your edits in the other window.
J: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?
Jan: A lot of times I don’t, but when I do it’s usually all over the place. I might be listening to something new one minute and 80’s hair bands the next. I love everything from pop to country to head banger.
J: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?
Jan: Coffee. It understands me.
J: What time of day do you feel most creative?
Jan: My most creative time is early morning. I get the majority of my scrapping done on Saturday and Sunday morning, unless it’s summer vacation, then every morning. I do scrap a lot in the evening, but it’s not as relaxing for me, since the evenings tend to be pretty rushed.
J: Any pictures of your workplace you would like to share?
Jan: Here is a photo of my workplace. I’m pretty proud of it. I worked all summer to turn my daughter’s room in to an office for me and I kinda love the way it turned out. Just ignore the creepy head on the shelf. It was an art project my daughter made in school and she said that, since it is now a craft room, her craft needs to be there.
J: Share with us your favorite 3 layouts.
Jan: This is going to be a hard one! All my TLP layouts are my favorites!
I very seldom scrap photos of myself, but I loved playing with blending the paints and working with the shadows on this one.
I loved playing with and stacking the papers on this one.
The paint and scatters on this one make me happy.
Thank you Jan for letting us learn more about you!
Be sure and pop over to Jan’s TLP gallery to see more of her amazing work! Do you want to be spotlighted on the TLP blog? Keep posting your layouts in the gallery and you may be next!
