Woo! It’s Wednesday! If you are relatively new to The Lilypad or digital scrapbooking, SOSN is a phrase you need to know.
Every Wednesday the designers hand pick a bunch of their digiscrapping goodies and put them on sale for half price! It’s a great way to build or grow your stash with everything from full kits to separate element and paper packs, alphas, templates and anything you could want on offer for a limited time. The Wednesday TLP newsletter is always worth a look to see what’s included in this weeks bargains. (If you aren’t already subscribed to get the newsletter, sign up here). Today’s Something Old, Something New store product category is here for you to check out.
One of the other things about SOSN is it reminds me of kits I have in my stash and that each kit has so many possibilities. I often see something I might have missed the first time around in the store, or something that was buried and is new to me but I also love seeing what the Pollys and Designer Creative Team Members create and how there can be quite different looks and pages that come from the same kit. So that’s what I’m sharing today, I’m looking at 2 kits available at 50% off today a bit closer and sharing some Same Kit, But Different Look layouts with you.
First up I saw Quietude bundle from LynneMarie in SOSN this week. If you’re a regular visitor to the TLP blog, you might have seen my Mixed Media Beginners series and those leaf brushes and stamps really caught my eye. You can also see from the many solids lined up along the bottom, this collection uses a large colour palette and that gives it versatility and stash building appeal! Each part is also available today for SOSN separately but buying the bundle today is an extra amazing deal because you basically get the brushes/stamps pack for free.
Now here’s 2 different looking layouts from this kit. This is a new page by Ona (wombat146) and the photo blended into the background, along with some of the scripty wordart which is almost like subliminal messaging and the glorious warm tones are so perfectly my ideal autumn, out in nature. This is digital artistry plus the cluster of ephemera from the kit that gives it a yesteryear but also timeless and real feeling. That squirrel button is an awesome fastener plus a feature in it’s own right. So much to see and take in and also to feel from this page; the ambience she has created here is almost tangible!
I also love this second page by Lynne-Marie herself, it has more of a traditional scrapbook and mixed media feel and really highlights those leaf stamps and yet the colours are quite different, definitely cooler because of the blues but the aged parchment style solid brings some warmth and I’m really not sure that I would have guessed these used the exact same kit, even if I saw them side by side in the gallery.
This layout feels fresh and could even be Springy but also relaxing and freeing like Ona’s page and comparing these 2 layouts is just evidence to me that you can create a similar feeling but come at it from a completely different angle and style and I think that’s really cool.
Secondly this week, I’m looking at Tate by Lynne Grieveson. (And no, I didn’t start this week intentionally thinking I’m going to feature the Lynne’s, just a happy coincidence). Anyhow, the calm blues and foliage drew me in here, it includes a ‘goes with anything’ easy to read wooden alpha (that as a mixer and matcher scrapper, I am always happy to collect), and I always love the details in Lynne’s patterns and especially her papers.
This is another page by Ona and the deep dark blue & the framing drew me in straight away. I don’t know that I would have tought to feature something pink in the photo but it definitely stands out and is striking but still soft and pretty. The imperfections on the edges of the blended background give it texture and that worn look is some of what I love about Lynne’s papers
And finally this page by Suzanne (sucali) which is lighter and brighter but still has that worn inky look to the edges with the subtle patterned background paper choice and the contrasting circles and alpha along with a black and white photo make this look quite different from Ona’s page.
Have you got these kits in your stash? Have you used them? Link me up to your page in the comments below, I’d love to see how you used them!
