Simply Hybrid: Bookmarks

simply hybrid bookmarks

Hi all, Sarah here. Today, I want to share how simple hybrid really can be. For these bookmarks I chose the kit Heart and Hand by Laurie Ann.

To begin with I created a really easy bookmark. I fell in love with this little jar of flowers from the kit. For this bookmark I placed the vase of flowers on a blank background and printed it. I love how pretty the flowers are all on their own, so I simply cut a 2″x6″ rectangle with my paper trimmer making sure to center the jar the best I could toward the bottom of the paper and leaving it on a plain white background.

For the next bookmark I placed a piece of background paper behind the flowers (I just love the polka dots and orange hearts) and cropped it to 2″x6″. Once it was printed I cut out the rectangle. I was also inspired by the gingham ribbon in the kit so I decided to add a bit of ribbon to the top of the bookmark. I used a 3/8″ hole punch, but a standard 1/4″ punch from an office store would work just as well.

To create the next bookmark I used some of my digi skills and created a ticket like top using one of the labels in the kit. I enlarged it so that it was 2″ wide and then merged it with the 2″x6″ rectangle to create a clipping mask and then clipped the background paper to the new shape and added the jar of flowers on top. Once this was printed I cut the bookmark out with my paper trimmer and the cut the curves out with a pair of scissors. Again I added the gingham ribbon to the top.

For this last example I took the previous bookmark but instead of placing the flowers on top of the paper I placed it on a blank spot on the canvas. After this was printed I cut the bookmark out the same way I did in the previous example but also cut around the flowers leaving a bit of a border with my scissors. I then adhered the bookmark to plain piece of white cardstock and using my paper trimmer cut the white cardstock leaving a small margin around the original bookmark. I used my scissors then to cut the curves in the white cardstock, again leaving a small border. After this I adhered the jar of flowers to the bookmark and added the gingham ribbon.

I love the way each one of these bookmarks turned out. I hope that I have helped show how easy it can be to create a simple bookmark no matter what your hybrid style may be. If you create your own hybrid bookmark, please post it to the Hybrid Projects gallery and link it up in the comments so I can see your creations!
