Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am thrilled to bring you another TLP member spotlight! I had the opportunity to chat with mollyc this week. This lady is so on top of things and fun to talk to! Sit back and take some time to get to know mollyc a little better!
Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?
mollyc: Molly/mollyc
J: Could you provide a picture of yourself so we can see who you are?
J: Where do you call home?
M: Virginia
J: Digital or Hybrid? Both?
M: Digital
J: How long have you been scrapping?
M: I’ve been playing with scrapbooking since 2002; I received a Creative Memories scrapbook as a wedding shower gift and started scrapping the year after I got married. However, paper scrapping was really difficult for me so I don’t have much to show for it. I started digital scrapping somewhere around 2008 or 2009 after I started amassing thousands of photos of my kids.
J: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?
M: I am very much a photo scrapper. I am a photographer before anything else and the photos are the springboard for all my pages.
J: How would you describe your style?
M: Clean, minimal. I am very much a one photo scrapper, which gets back to the photo first notion of my pages. I find it much more difficult to scrap an event. As a general rule, I will remember events in my head and don’t find the need to document them as much; the things I document are the little moments, smiles, everyday playtime that will easily be forgotten if not photographed. My layouts remain clean to showcase the photographs. For me, generally less is more, and I have several layouts where I have a background, a photo, one element, and nothing else.
J: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?
M: There is not any one specific item I need on my pages (other than photos). I do like to work shadows to make my pages look more like paper pages.
J: Share a favorite tip or trick
M: I really like separating shadows from their layer and warping and/or smudging them. I also do the Blend If Gray trick in the blending mode area of the Layer Style Dialogue Box to make ink/typing look like it was printed directly on to the paper.
J: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?
M: Generally no. I like the silence of my house for the few hours that everyone is gone.
J: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?
M: I don’t generally snack while I scrap.
J: What time of day do you feel most creative?
M: I don’t really have a specific time of day. But I am a daytime scrapper, I am not a night owl. I turn into a pumpkin by about 9:30pm.
J: Share with me the top 3 layouts (links please!) that you’ve created:
M: Choosing only three layouts is like asking to me to choose a favorite child. I have a lot of favorites and because I am a photographer, my layouts and photos get all intertwined together. I have actually found that occasionally I fall in love with photos more after scrapping them because the papers and elements mesh so well that the photos become better, more alive, within the context of a layout.
