Mother’s Day is coming up soon. Let me share some ideas for layouts about Mother’s Day.
You might create a page about your mother but also, you could think about creating a page about someone you admire, someone you know who is a mother, perhaps a friend, co-worker, relative or neighbor. Have you seen them with their children? Is there a specific occasion or time that stands out in your memory? Journal about a memory or more broadly, journal about the kind of person they are, what their best attributes are and how they influence you. I’ve got a friend whom I have admired for years, her calmness, her quiet wisdom, her unwaivering devotion to her children; she just simply amazes me. She is an inspiration to me. Do you have someone like that in your life?
Mother’s Day often brings up past family memories of our childhood. How did you celebrate Mother’s Day when you were young? Often times, these memories are heart warming but also can be funny or sad and sometimes embarrassing. Most of us have memories of handmade gifts made with love. Do you remember any of them? Have you ever made a list of gifts you have given your mom? Were there any favorites?
Mother’s Day often involves food, whether its going out to a restaurant, a family get-together or a special meal at home, it’s a great idea to create a layout, journaling about the food, the atmosphere, the conversations, etc. These memories can fade over time, so it’s a good idea to create a scrapbook page about it and preserve those memories. My mother passed away years ago but I’m so glad I have created layouts about previous Mother’s Day family get-togethers, as some of the details have faded of those times but the layouts always bring it right back to mind.
Another great idea for a layout is about emotions, both yours and hers. How do you feel about your mother? How has your relationship changed over the years. Are there any special memories that come to mind? Are there struggles in your relationship that you have overcome? I know that my relationship changed over the years with my mom and as I became an adult I started to understand her better which helped us to develop a closer relationship. I want to journal about that, to preserve those feelings in a layout. Here is my layout, journaling about our relationship.
Create a page about your mother’s best qualities, her favorites, her dislikes, hobbies, her silliest moments, etc. Do you share some of the same attributes as your mother? Do you have common interests? What have you learned from her?
On a more personal note, is there something you would like to say to her that maybe you haven’t been able to voice, but you could put it into a layout. I wish I had told my mom more often that I loved her, that I admired her inner strength and resilience. I think I would like to put that into a layout about her.
I hope that some of these ideas will help you to create a Mother’s Day layout. Have fun with it!
