January 6: Dispersion (Technique Challenge)

Here is mine... This was fun... the directions were good... I originally went with a flowing thing , like he was running, which he was... but then decided to do another and this is closer to what is expected here, I think... He was running across the coffee table towards my neighbor, and away from me! It was a cool photo that I probably would not have scrapped were it not for this challenge... as stated in the gallery, I did another version with a dark brown background, that looks like an oil painting... I fully understand this being a BIG challenge for everyone who is not well versed in how masking works... frustrating to have it all set up and find the B/W choice has flipped back and you did not notice it and cant figure out what is going on....without further a do...here is mine!

I had directions from the said child in the photo on how to make the splatters. "That's too much Mom" "More Mom" "Now make it look faster Mom!" I duplicated the subject on the journal card to make it more visible.

Boy Oh Boy!...I Can't Really Say I Enjoyed This Challenge...Not To Be A Negative Nelly But Is Hate Too Strong Of A Word...Honestly I Hate The Word Hate & I'm Not A Negative Person By Heart But I Can't Think Of Any Other Way To Describe This Challenge...Not Having Photoshop & Using An Almost 20 Year Old Scrapbooking/Editing Program Wasn't Gonna Work For This Challenge...I Worked On This Most Of The Night When I Should Have Been Sleeping & I'm Stressed Out To No End Trying To Get This Done Plus I'm Fighting A Throat Infection,Cold,Cough & Fever...My Layout Doesn't Look Like Anyone Else's & The Technique Isn't Exactly Jumping Out From My Layout But If You Look Really Close...You Can See Some Remnants Of The Awful Trying That I Did...I Hated The Way It Looked So I Decided To Make My Layout Design Around It To Try To Highlight It As Much As I Could Stand...I'm Not Ever Gonna Do Or Try This Technique Again & I'm Not Sure If You Will Accept My Layout For This Challenge...So I Won't Start The Next Challenge Until I Get A Yeah Or Nay...If It's A Yeah Than Fantastic But If It's A Nay I Can't Redo This...I Guess I Will Have To Accept The Fact That A Rather Silly Technique Challenge Is The Reason I Won't Finish MOC6 & That My Fellow Scrappers Is Really Sad To Me...

This whole MOC will have been worth it just for the Quick Selection tool alone! I've been ignoring it for years because I didn't want to try to figure it out, so thanks for just throwing me in the deep end with it. I have a feeling it's going to change everything!

This was the first challenge I've had a hard time with so far - seems like I'm in good company - and my inner perfectionist was SO frustrated at not being able to create the right angle and flow for the movement I was trying to represent. But in the end I had a lot of fun and I scrapped an experience I probably would have otherwise overlooked because the photos from it were not so great. Thanks for such an excellent tutorial and a cool new technique in my toolbox!

Here's my best friend trying out virtual reality for the first time:

My laptop is on system restore, and my phone won't copy the gallery link. Ill do it ASAP

so i walk past a photo from this 'mini shoot' (read: he just played like kids do and i snapped at least a dozen on the day) several times a day, it's in a multiframe on the wall and for some reason i decided it would be easier and maybe cool to do the dispersion on the guitar (given i can't for the life of me find the monster truck set of pics i had in mind for this).
Here's my result (i dont know that the dispersion technique is fab with B&W's but i wanted to add a bunch of colours around the guitar so i went with it (in my mind i had the idea of rainbow splatter to signify joyful music - even though i remember this 'toy' being really twangy).

i Love this funky technique - thanks so much for teaching it Jan!:clappy

close up of the dispersion area - i just used some mottled looking sponge brushes

This one about killed me. In the end, the dispersion ended up a bit more subtle but I like it. It'll be awhile before I try that again. ;)

not a design available in my program so I had to improvise...I tried to make the dispersion look like water splashes...I do hope my attempt is accceptable.

It's taken me well over an hour, and I'm an Artisan scrapper, but between the videos and the tips I DID it!!!!

I don't love it but I learned a lot from it. Tomorrow I'll scrap a layout using it. And as long as it took me I still appreciate all the great things I now know how to do!

Lori - where did you find videos on how to do this in Artisan? PS. I am still using Artisan 4.

Thanks for the fun challenge! I love learning something new.
