I unlinked by clicking on the chain link between the object and the mask. Not sure in the end whether this was the real problem or just user error. However if you do unlink...beware...because if you need to re size these must be re linked or problems!!!!!

This was a little tougher than I expected. Like others I'm not thrilled with it, but with the right photo it would be so cool. I've seen quite a few in the gallery that are amazing! I'd forgotten about content aware, so that was cool to be reminded of.

Well I made it or at least I think so. Warping tool was very slow and clunky so decided to duplicate my main word a couple of times and then layer them above in different colours. Then I used the dispersion technique, which I finally mastered. Whew! The journaling on my page says it all!

I am headed to bed, and I'll catch up on commenting on all the pages tomorrow, but I just want to say that I am totally blown away by all the creativity I've seen so far. I have all kinds of new ideas that I want to try with this technique thanks to you all!! I know that many of you have spent a lot time on this and you have all done beautifully!! :goldstars Techniques can be tough and challenging and you may never use this one again, but I hope that maybe there is some little something in there that you can take away from it or that you have learned from it. Now...sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Well I had a super good laugh trying to attempt this one. Definitely something I have NEVER tried. I would consider it an epic fail but my husband and I had a good laugh watching me try to pull this one off!!!

WOW. This was HARD; I did my best. There are some incredible photos that I've seen. I don't feel mine falls in that category; however the base photo I started with shows so much JOY on my daughter's face that even if the final product isn't perfect, it still makes me smile.

Wowza! Well, thanks to you I busted out my never-before-used Photoshop 12. Yes- I bought it over 3 years ago and have never used it! So as I went through the instructions I just kept googling all of the things I should already know... how do I make a duplicate layer? How do I use a clone tool? How do I load brushes? So while this technique isn't something that I anticipate doing frequently, I learned a LOT from the activity... thank you for that!!!

Ooh this was a fun challenge! It took me several tries before I ended up with something I liked - and I hope this will count. I changed my subject layer to b&w while leaving the dispersion layer in color.
Thank you SO much for including the GIMP tutorial link!

The Liquify would not work for me as you showed in your example, but for what I was trying to achieve, I used the distort twirl effect instead plus some star/sparkle brushes.

Jan, I love you. But, this has replaced Puppet Warp as my least favorite technique.

Oh gosh, I have no idea if I did this right or not. I hope a moderator will tell me if it's not up to snuff. I have been working on this all day and I just can't seem to get it.

I used "Laugh Often" by Studio Basic and Little Butterfly Wings

Image is linked to the gallery.

You only need to do the content aware thing if you are removing the background and not replacing it... otherwise ignore that part of the instructions and just cut out your figure, you will be working with the cut out images, on separate layers and adding a new background... fyi anytime you go to delete something you have selected, you get a pop up.. content aware is one of the choices.. it fills the hole with some semblance of the rest of the background... Hope this helps.. It was really easy following the instructions step by step, but some not needed if not using the original background....
