January 4: Photo blended into background

Boy, oh, boy. I'm stuck! I have PSE and I can't figure this challenge out. Watched the PSE video but I'm getting nowhere on blending. This is a technique I would love to learn but I guess I need to get assistance for this one. I found the mask layer but then it's toast for me after than.

 

I'm ashamed to say I'd never tried this, so THANK YOU for this challenge!

 

I always love the look of this! I actually made two pages, but the first was an old photo but I still had to keep it as I loved it so much, so this one is with our New Year's puddle jumping fun!

 

I used the directions provided by cfile to make my blending mask

 

New to me technique...

 

Here's my layout for this challenge, blending a personal photo into the layout background (full credits in Gallery):

 

As an alternative, I would recommend using your eraser tool. Use a large (400-1,000 px) round brush with a soft edge and erase around edge of your photo to achieve the blended look. I use a layer mask because I like to preserve the photo, but it’s optional. I hope that helps!

Does anyone know how to do this using GIMP??? Is it okay to use a premade mask?? I have no idea how to go about doing this challenge...

Jan 4 - Photo Blended into the Background

 

My 12-year-old daughter had surgery this week on her broken leg, which is why I'm very behind on challenges! She's doing great, but it wasn't how we planned to start the year!

 

Photo taken 8 January 2022. I loved this challenge, but it was certainly a challenge for me! This was my first time ever using gradient blend in Photoshop CC, and I'm not sure that I got it right...

 

I had fun with this one.

 

I blended 2 photos into each other (The title of the museum is on a different wall from where the statue is), as well as blending them both into a background paper. Thanks for the challenge!
