January 4: Photo blended into background

I actually have a different page started using this exact technique ... BEFORE this challenge was ever posted! BUT, alas, the photo is from last spring, and so I had to "convince" my dear hubby to set out on an adventure today and bring me back a picture that I could blend to my heart's content. I asked, he delivered :)

(@FarrahJobling The photo is blended with the background plaid paper, and I also "cut" out the silhouette so that he didn't blend in as well. If this isn't quite in keeping with the challenge, please let me know and I'll play around with another picture.)

Does anyone know how to do this using GIMP??? Is it okay to use a premade mask?? I have no idea how to go about doing this challenge...
I don't use gimp, so I can't test this out. But I did find this video, and the gradient result looks similar to what I did in PSCC to get this look.

Thanks for the great challenge--love that this was an easy technique I can see myself using again!

Boy, oh, boy. I'm stuck! I have PSE and I can't figure this challenge out. Watched the PSE video but I'm getting nowhere on blending. This is a technique I would love to learn but I guess I need to get assistance for this one. I found the mask layer but then it's toast for me after than.
Which PSE version do you have? That might help us help you out. I did find this video where the gentleman explains really well how to use the gradient in PSE.

Thanks Farrah for another technique! It is one I need to practice, but I surely do love blending photos, so practice I shall!

Thanks for the challenge

Try looking at Christas ( cfile ) tutorial for PSE I am guessing it is similar (same effect not same tool as PS ) Farrah linked it in the first post.
Or if that fails erase the edge of the photo at different opacities (in lines ) so the paper underneath gradually starts peeking through. It is a long time ago I tried gimp, but it is more similar to Photo Shop Elements than to the actual PS.
Hope it helps.

You have to click on the actual mask to work on it.
If this does not help, use the eraser.

I love gradient blending.... I actually double blended this photo as I wanted my plant to be the most focal part.

This is a technique that gives me fits but I really like it. I understand it in theory but I can never quite get it the way I want it. Thank you for making me practice! :-)
