    Photo blended into background

Welcome to MOC 10. Thanks so much for stopping in to check out my challenge. Over the past year, I usually host a photography based challenge since I love taking photos to capture my memories. Sometimes my LOs have little to no journaling because the photo can speak 1000 words on it's own.

This is a PHOTOGRAPHY challenge and therefore, please use a NEW photo. As memory keepers, part of our job in making a LO is taking a photo to capture an event, so YES...the answer to "does my photo have to be new" is YES...A NEW PHOTO, TAKEN IN 2022 (JAN 1-31, 2022). This is also a technique challenge, in which you will learn a fun way to blend a photo into a background paper, fade out a photo, or even blend a photo into another photo. The technique is the same and is super simple with these easy steps:

    1. Open up a blank document and drag and drop your photo. Your photo does NOT need to fill the whole page. My example uses a large photo to illustrate the steps.

    2. Add a Background....paper, or another photo....or even leave it blank if you want your photo to fade into a white, black, or otherwise blank space. In my example, I used a paper that looks a lot like sand.

    3. Add a mask layer to the photo and using the gradient tool, drag the line on the mask to fade the photo.

    4. Play around with your gradient to find the right amount of fading you desire.

    AND WITH THE BACKGROUND:

***Notice how with a smoother gradient, the blending looks more realistic?****

    5. Complete the LO as you would like.

    REQUIREMENTS:
    1. NEW Photo (at least 1)
    2. Photo blending technique for the photo. If you don't use my tutorial or if you use a different method for your software...great =) A photo MUST be blended.

    TIPS:
If you don't have PS....here are some links to tutorials for other programs.

    RULES:

Your page must be a new page in order to count for the Month of Challenges. Your page must be posted in three places:
    1. Uploaded to the TLP Gallery (not an outside hosting site).
    2. Posted in your page thread you created in the MOC Layouts Folder. You should have one post per completed challenge page. If you complete all 31 challenges, your thread should contain 31 posts. Please do not comment in the participants’ page threads so we can keep them clean.
    3. Posted in this thread. People can comment here if they wish.
Your page must contain Lilypad product (pages with photos and font only do not count). If you use product from other stores, your pages must contain at least 75% current Lilypad product (currently for sale in the store from either permanent designers or guest designers).

I used two papers for blending - black at the top and gray at the bottom.

I used a pale fawn paper from Metamorphosis by Pink Reptile Designs and used the photo to cover the page. I added a mask and then used the gradient as per the instructions - going from top right corner to bottom left corner.

I did get to photograph the butterfly as it had emerged from the chrysalis and photos of it as its wings expanded. It just happened that on the same oleander shrub there was also a caterpillar which I am now photographing it as it turns into a chrysalis.

This week has been unusually and stunningly HOT here in New Zealand, even where we live - which is one stop from Antarctica ;-) The water still had its chill factor though. Unlike our daughters, DH and I are loving it but it is somewhat worrying at the same time ....

I used paper from "No Big Deal" kit plus elements from "Wind in my Sails", "Authenticity" and "Parisian Dates No2".

Thanks so much, Farrah. I took a rare picture of the sun just starting to rise. I'm a late sleeper, usually.

Great challenge! And thanks so much for the instructions on how to blend. I took this photo yesterday when we took the dogs for a swim at the river. (I'm in Australia so it's summer here.)
