January 2: Photography challenge {shallow depth of field}

I love shallow DOF and usually shoot wide open with my DSLR. But since I was holding these ornaments with one hand and shooting with the other, I had to rely on my phone's portrait mode and I was pleasantly surprised with how well it did!

Finally got around to taking a new photo! The one of me was taken 12/15, but the other with the DOF was taken today 1/8.

This is a fantastic challenge! Thanks, Farrah! <3

I created my shallow depth of field for the image of the little pumpkin by placing it several feet away from the flowers in the background and setting the focus on the pumpkin. I only have an iPhone SE so I don't have Portrait mode, and I preferred to do it this way rather than manipulating the photo in Snapseed or PSE. And yes, I just took this photo 2 days ago for this challenge! This little gourd is going to last all winter, I think!

Thanks for the challenge Farrah - a chance to capture my first strawberries after some rain yesterday

@FarrahJobling thanks for this!!!! not sure which one of the pages is better, I thought the one photo that I consider nicer isn't the best, but I think the effect is achieved :) just in case I made one with the other photo...also was great because the challenge made me get out of bed to look for things to take photos of, and this one has a wonderful story, will try do a journaling page later !

Finally got some inspiration last night! Malachy has the most beautiful, beautiful eyes and eyelashes. When he crawled into my bed last night after having a nightmare, I snapped this very somber close up of his eye.

This was fun! Originally, I was playing with munchkin and the depth of field. But the dog stayed still longer while I practiced! So, munchkin became part of the soft background instead!
