I've since discovered that I can take photos on my phone with a "selective focus" that will give me this shallow DOF. But I used edits for the effect on this photo. Thanks for a great challenge!

Photo taken January 3rd
Using a photo of my desktop pen holder that has markers, pens, pencils, paintbrushes, scissors, you name it. Filtered for DOF on instagram because I was too lazy to get my big camera out to do it properly.

My little DIY goldfinch, bought at the Mauritshuis where the painting Het Puttertje (the goldfinch) by Carel Fabricius is displayed. It is one of my favorite artworks and not just because I love goldfinches.

I couldn't get my P&S camera or my iPhone camera to cooperate on this so I used the PS version of Shallow DOF.
