January 11: On This Day (Journaling Challenge)

On this day:
Christmas Eve this year was totally different from Christmas Eve of 1994, the year that our daughter Sarah died. This year we celebrated in church with family in Hong Kong and it was bittersweet – as it always is. Singing Christmas hymns, sitting crying through Away in a manger like I usually do, it’s one of the triggers that still get me and it has become a song I avoid at all costs. The line and “Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care”. I mean I believe that she is in heaven in His tender care, but that certainly does not mean that I didn’t at least in part wish she were still on earth in my tender care. Anyway, after the church service we enjoyed playing some hoops, sharing a picnic at their church and going to the beach for a gourmet turkey dinner. All good, mostly happy, just a little wistful.

OMG... this really turned out to be a project... thought it would be much faster... but the template was a challenge in itself, and then replacing things with things from here, not to mention trying to get all the journaling right and correcting all the photos!!! But it is now done and needed to be done... I am so happy to be getting these pages completed with these challenges.... words are in the gallery...

Happy 4th Birthday Evan! We celebrated with a Pirate Themed birthday party. Mom had so much fun making your cake, and the look on your face when you saw it for the first time was priceless! It was worth all the time it took to make just to see that look on your face!! The party included pirate eye patches, pirate goodie bags, gold coins, and pirate flags, and it would not have been complete without a pirate treasure chest full of goodies!

William & Audrey (pictured to right) were even able to attend the party with their parents! Maija Olson & Emilee Tapani also joined us for the fun, along with Bruce, Debbie, Sue, Mike, Grandma & Grandpa!

November 15, 2014

You received some awesome gifts, some Jake and the Neverland Pirate toys, books, new clothes, and money. You were so excited to celebrate with everyone! All in all it was a wonderful party!
