Fixing Buried Candle Wicks
Greetings, Pad Scrappers!
Polly Liana here with a quick tutorial about how to rescue buried candle wicks from jar candles. Â For many of us, this is a great time to put on a long-lasting jar candle to make the house look cozy and smell great. Â Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you have burned a jar candle for a while, the middle wax starts to sink further than the sides and the wick gets buried? Â Well I have a quick and easy solution for that.
The reason the middle wax begins to go down faster than the sides is because the candle isn’t being burned for long enough each time. Â It’s important to burn it for several hours, especially when you first start it, so that the wax can be melted in a uniform way. Â Here’s what my poor candle looks like. Â The wick is way too small and when I try to burn it, the pool of wax ends up snuffing it out after a while:
Here’s how to fix it. Â First, get a piece of tin foil that is long enough to be wrapped around the outside of the candle (with a bit to spare).
Then, fold the foil in half lengthwise.
Wrap the foil around the jar and push the top in a bit so it makes the hole on top a lot smaller. Â This is the key to melting the wax on the sides of the jar because the heat stays trapped in the jar more effectively.
Light the candle and wait for at least an hour until the wax on the sides melts.
Blow out the candle and with a spoon or spatula, scoop the excess wax off the sides of the candle.
When you burn it again, it should burn more evenly. Â Voila!
Hope you have a comfy, cozy weekend!
