November 11, 1918, in the 11th hour, major hostilities of World War I were formally ended. An Armistice with Germany went into effect. It is now known in the United States as Veterans Day. It is a day to celebrate the service of ALL U.S. military veterans. Memorial Day (in May) is for those who have died while in military service. There is no apostrophe to be attached to the name of this day; Veterans Day, because it is not a day that “belongs” to the veterans, it is a day for honoring ALL veterans.
I come from a family of veterans. My father served in the Navy, uncle who gave his life in Vietnam, and I served 6 years in the Air Force. I grew up with the utmost respect for military personnel. Through the years, and watching lives in the gallery here at the Lily Pad, there are a few veterans that I would like to recognize in their very own pages honoring or being them.
I begin with KittyY and My Favorite Soldier and that emotional lump in my throat begins at the pride she has for her precious son on this tribute page.
There maybe more, but one of our amazing scrappers is currently active and along with her beloved, serving our great country. She will be embarrassed and ever so humble to see this page featured. She is a hero to me, (I am a kind of stalker of her talent and life). Hey, Lisa! YOU are our warrior, and this page Hey Warrior, totally captures YOU to me! Thank you, because YOU KEEP GOING! AND yes, that is AIRBORNE on her sleeve! Butt kicking woman!
Seeing KayTeaPea love all over this page and that Dada holding little Parls, oh tears are being held back in See You later, Alligator!
Upheaval is the title of the page by EHStudios, and those little fingers on the window, can soften the hardest of hearts as we read that Mom and Dad are both veterans, active and deploying!
If you aren’t crying by now, you got to have some wet eyes, as I read the journaling from this mom; Jenn McCabe, I could barely make out the words, tears flowing. The fear and knowledge her son was right there, and her compassion for those families covers the page; Come Home…Soon.
There are so many, sons & daughters, husbands & wives, fathers and moms out there serving or have served to protect our country and our freedoms. Please, today, thank one of them, say a prayer for the families waiting for them to come home, and those that have given their very lives and will never come home. Thank you for all you give up, your bravery and how you are an example to us all. Happy Veterans Day to our soldiers, both past and present!
I end with CheryIndesigns Thank YOU!
~never lose your joy
