My Process of Documenting the Everyday
It’s the beginning of the year and many scrapbookers are beginning to scrapbook their daily life photos and journaling using divided pocket protectors. One of the most popular types of this pocket scrapbooking and documenting is Becky Higgins‘ Project Life system. I personally will be using both Becky Higgins products AND various paper and digital products in my album. Most of my digital products will be from The Lilypad, of course! The Lilypad has a fantastic selection of digital and hybrid products geared towards documenting everyday life using divided pocket protectors, and you can find them all here!
My plan is to leave my album out on my craft table so that I can take notes and work on my album here and there during the week.
My process will look something like this:
-
Take photos on most days. Not too worried about taking a photo per day, since my album will be highlights of the week. I will use whichever camera is available to me at the time (Canon T2i, Canon SD850 IS, phone). For more on capturing memories with the camera you have with you, I wrote an article on the Lilypad blog here.
-
Daily journaling using Oh Life and my Moleskine daily planner.
-
Upload photos to computer 2-3x per week.
- Process and tag photos in Adobe Lightroom. I love using Lightroom for my photo catalog! I use it to tag photos that I use for my blog, and the photos I want to include in my Project Life album. It makes it SO easy and painless. For Project Life I just export all my photos of the week I want to print into a “To Print” folder.
-
Make photo collages using Lightroom or Photoshop.
-
Print photos at home at the end of each week, using my Canon Pixma MG5320 printer and Canon Glossy Plus II photo paper. If I have a ton of photos or if I fall behind, I will send the photos to Costco and pick them up.
- Handwrite journaling on paper products + digital journaling on digi products and print them out. You can see an example of some journal cards that I typed on and printed out using products from The Lilypad.
-
Embellish and decorate as I have time, but not be afraid to just get it done with the basics
I also plan to include screenshots of social media updates into my album.
I love the process of picking out photos to print each week. As my album grew last year, I found myself flipping through them regularly. Re-living my favorite memories of the year puts a big smile on my face!
