Behind the Designs: Heather Joyce

We are featuring our resident fontographer, Project Life superstar and the all-around-fantastic Heather Joyce today. She has taken some wonderful pictures of her workspace, complete with her furry family members, a few of her gorgeous typewriters and a peek at her love of all things vintage.

Mac or PC?
Mac. My whole life. Brother worked for Apple and I was… we will say, convinced at a young age. I remember the first time I turned on the computer and it was a color monitor. Now I work for Apple…. so…. 😀

It’s a MacBook Pro. I move around a lot. I get work done anywhere I can.

Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?
Yes. Coffee in the morning. Then tea once I get to work.

Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?
Since I don’t have a set time, I don’t have a set snack. But I’ve always got chips and salsa to snack on. Mild salsa too and chunky. I like a lot of veg in my bite.

Favorite music to listen to?
mmmm. Folk. no question here. I’ve got a playlist of a few albums I’ll shuffle through. Jake Bugg, The Tallest Man on Earth, The Avett Brothers, Mumford and Sons. Then the most country I’ll get (which I even call Brooklyn Country to make myself feel better) is The Lone Bellow.

Your view from your scrap space?
When I’m home, it typically involves a puppy.

What software do you use to create with?
Photoshop CS6, Glyphs, and Fontographer 5. It’s a heavy combination.

Favorite photo editing tools?

Pic Tap Go. Get it done on my phone? Sold! Don’t tell my photography professor this please. But then again, I haven’t picked up my DSLR in ….. oh my am I getting into years?

Favorite time to create (morning or evening)?
Afternoon or Evening. If I can get some work done on my day off, I’ll hang in bed for a while. Catch up on TV shows, then get started on things.

Favorite thing about your workspace?
It’s anywhere I am. My notebook makes it with me to work so if I’ve got to get something done in a pinch I’m covered. My hybrid craft space is in the living room near Wes’s desk. So I can craft while he plays video games.

Least favorite thing about your workspace?
I have to keep it clean. Since when I get going I spread out into the walkway into the kitchen, It can’t be a hot mess for long.

What would you dream workspace look like and where would it be?
It’s easiest to start to answer this with were would it be. It would have to be in Martha Stewart’s home or Studio. I won’t be picky. White walls and workspace, so all the color will pop. Vintage yummies scattered in the space. A workspace man to refill my drinks… and then take them away when I’m done slurping so no spills happen! A girl can dream?
