Hi all! Polly Jewelle here back with another edition of Behind the Design. With a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes we got the designers here at the LilyPad to agree to show off their design spaces at home. They also agreed to answer a few questions about their design space that will allow us to get to know them better. This month we are going behind the designs of
Peppermint Granberg
Mac or PC?
PC
Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?
Iced coffee every morning. I don’t like warm drinks. :)
Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?
I always have Hazelnut Lindt truffles stashed away somewhere in my office. I go through phases with other treats but the truffles are a constant.
Favorite music to listen to?
I adore indie/folk singer/songwriter types, so my usual playlist is a lot of The Weepies, Brandi Carlile, The Belle Brigade, Patti Griffin and the like. Sometimes all of my angst-filled folk music feels a little heavy, so my fallback is a 90s playlist that my husband and I put together one weekend with 4 hours of songs we can sing at the top of our lungs. (It’s our go-to playlist for long car rides, too, because it’s the only music we can actually agree on.)
Your view from your scrap space?
My backyard. I used to maintain bird feeders outside my office windows, but then squirrels figured out they could climb the screens on my windows then jump to the feeders, circumventing all of our squirrel-proofing measures. After a while I started to worry it was carving years off my life to continually have the bejeezus scared out of me by squirrels launching themselves at my office windows, so now the birds are on their own.
What software do you use to create with?
Illustrator CS6, then I finish everything off in Photoshop CS5.
Favorite photo editing tools?
Lightroom and RadLab – together!
Favorite time to create (morning or evening)?
I’ve made many attempts to be a morning person, but I’m a night owl through and through. I try to take care of administrative things during the day, when my creativity is at its lowest.
Favorite thing about your workspace?
All the natural light. My office was a back porch that the previous owner of our house enclosed and finished off so I have three solid walls of windows. When I have all my blinds open it’s like working outside. Plus it’s right off our kitchen so a lot of times I can work and make dinner simultaneously.
Least favorite thing about your workspace?
Unfortunately this room is climate control nightmare because it’s on its own heat (expensive electric heat) and in the summer I only get whatever little bit of central air manages to trickle back here. It can be unbearably hot in the summer and crazy cold in the winter, but there are a lot of temperate months in-between where I have zero complaints! We’ve talked about moving my office to a larger, unused room in our basement but the pros outweigh the cons back here. Even in the dead of winter I love being able to open up all the blinds and soak up the sun.
What would you dream workspace look like and where would it be?
Hmm, I’m perfectly happy in my current space but wouldn’t get mad at anyone if they fixed my temperature problems. Also I would jump for joy if someone just showed up one day and offered to paint it for me! The walls are unsealed oak, and every once in a while a wave of resolve washes over me to paint it … then I think about how long it’s going to take, and how many coats of primer and paint I’ll go through … then I abandon the idea and tell myself that the wood “adds character”.
Peppermint showed off her beautiful studio for us. Look how bright that place is! What a lucky lady to have all that natural light in her work area. The pop of color from her decorative accents with her clean white linear furniture certainly remind me of her digital designs.
I hope you have enjoyed this little peek in Peppermint’s workspace! Stay tuned next month for a peek into another designer’s space!

awesome! thanks for the interview! But her office image isn’t showing.
The Lilypad says
I’m not sure why you can’t see it. It is showing on my screen.
Dalis says
That office screams Peppermint’s taste!
