Behind the Design: Gina Miller Designs

Hi all!  Polly Jewelle here with another edition of Behind the Design.  With a little bit of pleading and maybe a few bribes we got the designers here at the LilyPad to agree to show off their design spaces at home.  They also agreed to answer a few questions about their design space that will allow us to get to know them better.  This month we are going behind the designs of

Mac or PC?

 27” fully loaded iMac! 🙂
Coffee or tea (or both/neither)?
 

BOTH! I start my day with coffee (mostly black, just a little milk), and eventually finish with green tea.

Guilty pleasure snack while creating/scrapping?
 
Almonds… chocolate… and I am oddly addicted to olive tapenade hummus with cucumbers.
Favorite music to listen to?
 
I have my Billy Joel playlist going right now. 🙂 Or I just rotate through my playlists which include the widest range of music under the sun. I have very strange taste. =P
Your view from your scrap space?
 
I included a shot of my living room’s gallery wall, since it’s probably my favorite design aspect to my house. I am constantly re-arranging pieces and adding new prints.  This wall is directly to my right, so I kind of feel like it inspires me daily while I work. 🙂

What software do you use to create with?
 
Photoshop CS 6
 
Favorite photo editing tools?
 
Clone brush. 🙂 I use it to lighten under eye circles and smooth newborn skin. 
 
Favorite time to create (morning or evening)?

 
Evening. I prefer to do absolutely nothing but sip coffee in the morning if possible. That’s rare, but a girl can dream, right?
 
Favorite thing about your workspace?
 
It’s right in the center of everything. I can work and still have a movie night with my kids.

Least favorite thing about your workspace?
 
It’s right in the center of everything. Lol, JK…kinda. It’s very easy to get distracted working in the middle of the living room which is the central hangout for the family.
 
What would you dream workspace look like and where would it be?
 
I would have my own office. Maybe I’d go back to doing some paper scrapping if I had the space!

I’m a creative who pulls inspiration from all corners of life—both the joyful highs and the real-life moments that punch you in the gut. Honestly, I don’t think I can pin down a single scrapbooking style for myself, so let’s just go with eclectic. My layouts really depend on my mindset. If I’m in a deep, cerebral mood, you’ll likely see something chaotic and messy. If I’m more relaxed, it tends to come out clean, simple, and structured.

My brain is usually running on several channels at once, so it’s completely normal for me to be working on a digital layout, dabbling in a hybrid project, and getting messy with art journaling or mixed media—all at the same time.

Here are a few of my go-to tools: Digital: Adobe Photoshop CC + my MacBook; Photos: Canon Rebel or iPhone; Hybrid: Cricut Joy + sewing machine; Art Journaling: watercolors, stencils, and artsticks

And when it comes to embellishments—digital or physical—I’m always reaching for messy threads, ribbons, and Polaroids. Always the Polaroids.
