August Challenges
Hello everyone! It’s Polly Karen back again to give you a quick overview of all the new challenges for August. I have a love/hate relationship with August… I love it because it’s my birthday month, but I’m also so sad when August arrives because it’s our last month of summer freedom before my boys go back to school and busy stuff of school all starts up again. BUT, we also can be happy for the beginning of a new month because we have a new batch of challenges! Each month we have 8 brand new challenges that are posted in the forum Challenge Pad on the 1st day of the month. (the BYOC Challenge is posted on the 1st Friday of the month.) You can use the challenges simply to inspire you to keep creating new layouts OR you can also earn yourself a fabulous coupon for your next shopping trip in the Lilypad Store. (2 challenges = 10%, 4 challenges = 20% and 6 challenges = 30%). Those who complete at least 7 challenges will be entered in a drawing for a $50 gift certificate! Isn’t that an awesome prize?!?! You’ll get lots of great memories captured in your scrapbooks AND you could win a fat gift certificate prize!!! Pretty great, right?! So let’s take a look at this month’s new batch of challenges!
1. Random Challenge – First up in the challenge line up is the Random Challenge hosted by our Guest Polly Monica (umyesh). Monica is challenging you to use exactly 8 of something this month. She chose to use 8 solid papers on her layout below:
2. Template Challenge – Next up is the Template Challenge hosted by Christa (cfile). The challenge is to use the free template supplied by Liz of Scrapping with Liz and create a layout using it. Here’s a look at the free template followed by a sample that Christa created using it:
3. Journaling Challenge – The Journaling Challenge for August is being hosted by Heather (HeatherB) and she is challenging you to create a layout that must have a series of at least 5 questions and answers on it for your journaling. Heather did an interview with herself as the subject and used single word questions:
4. Photography Challenge – Lori (lcpereyra) is hosting August’s Photography Challenge. Lori is challenging you to take a photograph where a shadow is the subject and focal point of your image. Here’s a great layout that Lori created with her shadow as the subject in her photo:
5. Style Challenge – The Style Challenge for this month is being hosted by Jess (jesskab). Jess would like you to create a layout that utilizes paper strips that take up at least 1/3 of your page and have at least 3 different patterns/colors. The paper strips must also stay in the background of your layout with elements and other goodies on top. Here’s a great example layout created by Jess:
6. Scraplift Challenge – Next up is the scraplift challenge and is being hosted by Ashley (ashleywb). Ashley has a fun idea for this month’s Scraplift Challenge. She would like you to scraplift any layout from the Scraplift Challenge Gallery and then create a new scraplifted version. This is a play on the telephone game, but with scraplifting instead. So your layout will end up being a scraplift of a scraplift. Below you will see the scraplift Ashley chose, followed by the original layout and then that is followed by her new scraplifted version:

7. Inspiration Challenge – The Inspiration Challenge for August is hosted by Stefanie (Eyeore) and she has create a layout that you can use as your inspirations. You may pick the same number and layout of photos, you can be inspired by the colors or even be inspired by the subject matter of her layout. Just find something that sparks your creativity and go with it! Here’s Stefanie’s layout:
8. BYOC Challenge – Finally we have the BYOC Challenge. This challenge will be hosted and posted by Jenn (jk703) on Friday, August 6th when the BYOC Collection for August will be released in the store. The challenge will be to use 90% of the products on your page from this month’s BYOC collection and from at least 3 designers.

There is your peek at this month’s brand new batch of challenges. Once you create your own layouts inspired by these challenges, be sure to post them to the appropriate galleries as listed above.
