TLP Member Spotlight – VickyD
Hey all, Polly Jewelle here! I am thrilled to bring you another TLP member spotlight! Vicky is a very active member here at TLP! She just recently hit 3500 posts here at the Pad. Vicky frequents the TLP gallery scattering thoughtful comments on layouts. She has an amazing gallery too, be sure to check it out! Now lets sit back and take some time to get to know more about our “talkative” friend Vicky.
Jewelle: What is your IRL name and your user name?
Vicky: Vicky – VickyD (Original huh?)
Jewelle: Where do you call home?
Vicky: I live in what I like to call…. Our little “Bubble”! Geographically that would be Dagenham – Essex, around 10 or so miles from Central London in the UK
J: Digital or Hybrid? Both?
V: Digital! Although I would really like to try some hybrid with digital products at some point! Its on my “To-Do” list! I have dabbled in card making in the past, before discovering digital products though.
J: How long have you been scrapping?
V: I’ve been creating digital scrapbooking pages since 2009 – WOW where did those 6 years go?! Prior to digital scrapbooking I used to create handmade cards. I discovered that hobby while on maternity leave, but once Ty started crawling and walking and having his fingers and hands exploring and delving into everything, it was hard to carve out time to safely get out my stash and be crafty. That was the turning point and the pure joy of digital scrapbooking back then, and I have never looked back!
J: What is the starting point for your pages – photos, the story, products?
V: For me, that changes on a layout by layout basis! I have never been a chronological scrapper until recently. Now, most often the photos or the story will be my starting point. I’ve started weekly pocket scrapping for 2015, so of course the highlights, events, and little moments from that week, both in photo form and story form will be my jumping off point. With my art journal pages, how I feel or what I want to express would be my “inspiration” or “vision” first, so then I’ll search through my stash to create that page. Frequently a product in the store will grab my attention, and I will search through my years of photos for the right one to use with the kit, or even take a photo to go with a kit I “must” have!
J: How would you describe your style?
V: Eclectic ….. “Deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources!” I wouldn’t say I have one particular style, I just “do me!” Whatever I’m in the mood for, whatever grabs my eye, trying something new, revisiting something old…. The list could go on. Even my Project Life pages vary from week to week, I’m one of those people that get bored easily, and distracted even quicker, LOL! I’d say the only style I really struggle with is clean and simple, because more often than not I can’t stop adding to the page. Whenever I feel finished with a clean and simple page, I go back and take off 50% of what I put on in the first place!
J: Any must-have items or techniques on all of your pages?
V: I do like a bit of paint! I wouldn’t say it appears on all of my pages, but it does appear on the majority of them!
J: Do you have a favorite tip or trick you can share with us?
V: Using a variety of blend modes on art journal style pages! Its amazing how much you can change photos, papers and elements by using a few layers and various blend modes!
J: Do you listen to music while you scrap? What kind?
V: Again, I get distracted easily, so I tend to scrap without music when I’m home alone, or I would end up singing along (screeching like a cat) and taking 4 times as long to create my page! I do love to listen to Ed Sheeran, right now, when just relaxing at home though!
J: What’s your favorite snack (if any) while you scrap?
V: It used to be all the naughty things like chocolate, biscuits/cookies, cakes and sweets! But I’m now eating healthy and trying to lose some weight, so my go to snacks recently are strawberries, melon and mango!
J: What time of day do you feel most creative?
V: In the morning, pretty much as soon as I’m home from the school run and I have some free time to myself. It is also my firstt cup of coffee time then too, and scrapbooking and coffee seem to fit very well together! Weekends could be any time as long as I’m in my PJ’s.
J: Share with us your favorite 3 layouts that you’ve created.
V: This was more difficult than I thought it would be! Every new page is my new favourite, but going back through my gallery I fell in love all over again with so many!
