Seasonal Inspiration: Leafy Layouts

Hi there! Even if it is not Autumn where you are, you may have noticed the abundance of foliage in the gallery recently and whether it’s the greenery of Spring or crunchy colours of Fall, leaves are always in season to me and today I’m looking at some of the ways leaves are showing up on your pages.

This layout by Traumelfe uses a method we’d usually reserve for flowers, a bouquet style cluster complete with bow, to give dimension and amplify the colours of her papers and photo and pops against the white background. The placement against the colourful hexagons and photo draws the eye right in to the centre of the page.

This page by kayteapea also uses a cluster of leaves but more like a border or path and this is such a great way to showcase a mix and match variety of leaves! Love the way the leaves underscore the different blocks of patterned paper and look just like they have fallen from trees somewhere above the page on to the ‘floor’ of the page.

A leaf wreath is a beautiful idea no matter what season it is! Polly amandaresende shows a rainbow of dimensional leaves layered over leaf sketches is perfect with any black and white photo!

Cut-outs can be an extremely effective in getting a flatter style page but with loads of impact from such little change in depth but clever contrast like Roxana has shown here.

This page by rlucasmn uses a clever play-on-words title that is really a perfect summary of the landscape she’s captured and her use of scale and combining mixed media leaves with smaller scattered leaves on the opposite half of the page looks amazing.

Sometimes photos can basically speak for themselves and the title of this next page by kendrawalter is another perfect summary. I totally get why she didn’t add any leaf elements to this page, the paper is more than enough because I probably wouldn’t want to even look at another leaf ever again if this were my regular yardwork experience.

On the otherhand, this next page by dennydenny is all about leafy elements, the watercolour kind, that she has positioned perfectly to recreate the movement a breeze and the tones give this an extra warm cozy and wistful feel.

The diagonal flow that Meibritt has used on this page with the leaf stamped scatter is another great way to add movement and I love the stitched leaf details for texture as well.

This page by Vrielinkie uses flat but detailed coloured leaves to underpin several points of interest on her page. The use of colour and contrast makes it exciting and engaging, and the subtle detail of the smaller lighter leaves against the wooden background echoes the shapes beautifully.

Finally, Vixen has inspired me with her carefully nested leaves and pieces here to create a graphic and contemporary design that I’d happily display on my wall!

Lots of leafy inspiration for you!
