School’s Out!
It’s May 23, and my kids have been on summer break for three full days already. How did the school year go by so quickly?
I’m blogging today about some fun ways to finish out your school year. (And they’re all easy!)
1. First up, is to simply take an end-of-the-year picture. I like to take the picture at the end of the day instead of beginning because the kiddos are tired and worn out and look like they’ve had the best day ever. In this picture, I handed them a framed shot of their first day of school for comparison’s sake. They had fun day at school and were exhausted, wearing their sunglasses from the end-of-year fun bag, blue teeth from blue slushies included.
Another easy photo to take is print off a LAST DAY OF ____ GRADE sign for them to hold.
2. Our family always takes a trip to Sonic for slushies on the way home from the last day of school (hence, the blue teeth and lips in the photo). Start a tradition for the last day of school. A night swim, celebratory dinner, or trip to the local zoo would be fun ways to kick off the summer.
3. What about presenting your kids with the official Summer 2014 To Do List when they arrive home on the last day?
4. An end of year questionnaire is always fun. I love seeing how answers change from year to year. You could either type up this list and include it on a layout or let them fill it out in their own handwriting and stick it into your 2014 book. Here are a few sample questions.
What was your teacher’s name?
What was your favorite class?
What was your favorite part of the day?
What was your least favorite part of each day?
Who was your best friend?
What did you like the most about your teacher?
What are you going to miss about this year?
What are you looking forward to the most in ___grade?
What was your favorite accomplishment this year?
What are the 3 most important things you learned this year?
What happened this year that you think you will remember for the rest of your life?
What was your favorite subject? Least favorite subject?
What do you want to be when you grow up?
5. Create a top 10 list (things I’ve learned, pieces of advice for a ___grader, top 10 school moments, etc.)
As always, Pinterest is a great resource for those of you who want to get a little extra craft while celebrating the last day of school. A quick search here turned up lots of fun ideas, and this blog had some fantastic fun ideas.
So how are you going to celebrate?
