Yes, you can do it! Compile your own cookbook for you, by you. It is your book so you can pop in favorites from other books and get how you make it, in a book to keep or give as gifts.
My mom long ago, compiled all the recipes that I would on a regular basis would call, “uhm mom, how do you make that lemon poke cake again?”. She was always so patient on the calls, but her wheels were spinning, and she got it done. She typed them all out and added little clip art, then took a local printer to have them print and collate and put the neat little plastic binding clip to it.
This book is thumbed thru and used all the time. I adore the book, and now, I get the calls from my kids, “Mom, how do you?”.
Searching the internet for HOW to Make Your Own Recipe Book have the same steps:
- Step 1: Collect the recipes.
- Step 2: Curate the collection, and type up the chosen ones.
- Step 3: Design a consistent and book-friendly format for the recipes.
- Step 4: Cook!
- Step 5: Take photographs.
- Step 6: Create your recipe book.
Collecting the recipes by who you are going to give the book to is important. I am currently making one for my twin girls. They love to cook. I also know that my girls are visual learners like me, and having a recipe with step by step photo instructions is way better than the old recipe card:
Some of my favorite recipe books, are big into photos, and real journaling about the story about and how the recipe came to be, and little hints to use while preparing the recipe. I am a huge fan of Pioneer Woman , and my kids love her food, and have blessed me with many of her books. You can see she goes in depth to her recipes.
So, I have a list of recipes the girls have requested. As they show up in my menu/shopping list. I make them, and take a zillion photos.
The best part of being a scrapper, is there are so many templates to start you off right here at the Lily Pad. For the above recipe, I used Scrappin’ with Liz’s 8×11 Recipe Page Templates 4.
I knew that the liquid smoke ingredient would be a stumper for them. Adding a photo of it, makes it easier for shopping. Knowing what it looks like, is a huge help.
This recipe is made with Scrappin’ with Liz’s 8×11 REcipe Page template 1
My girls love the extra notes I put on the recipes. They will call and giggle, “I made it mom, it taste just like yours!” That is the best compliment ever!
I am collecting them all and will print in 8×10 book. I am also going to add how I make menus and shopping lists to help my girls be amazing homemakers too!
Now, it is your turn, take those fun recipes and start snapping photos and get your recipes out there to tantalize others taste buds!

I do this, but print the cards as 4×6 or 6×8. I have a box for the normal recipes and a binder, which holds all my Instant Pot recipes.
