My Scrapping Secret Recipe, Part 2
Two weeks ago, I shared with you the first half of the digital scrapbooking “secret recipe” I’ve come up with for creating great layouts. This is the process that I use most often when I am creating layouts. Today, I want to share with you the last few steps I take when creating my digital scrapbooking layouts. To recap, we’ve started with an idea, picked our tools, and placed our papers and elements.
Shadows are what make a page “real.”
I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again: shadows make or break your page. They are difficult to master. I’ve talked about different shadow styles I use to get mine to look the way they do. The best piece of advice I could give you about shadowing though, is this: do each layer separately. It makes a difference because you get to pay attention to how each element and paper look. I use a mix of shadows directly from a template, tools that I’ve picked up in the store, and preset shadows I’ve created and saved.
Finally, it’s time to add your photos.
If you haven’t picked your photos yet, look through the photos you have to work with and pick what you want to use. Now is the time to bring them into your layout and place them. If you have any photo edits you need to do to them, go ahead and do that now, and place your photos. Don’t forget to shadow them.
Get your title together.
I usually do my title work in a separate document, and then drag it all into my layout. I do this so that I can really focus on the title without being distracted by the other elements of my layout. I shadow the title before it goes onto the layout, and then drag it over and size it to fit.
Record the memories.
Isn’t it funny? I leave what I think to be the most important part of digital scrapbooking for last? The very last thing I do on the layout is the journaling. I am not totally sure why I save it for the end, but it always gives me a good feeling of “completing” the page when I do the journaling last. Lately, I have not been journaling that much. I’m not sure why, but it just doesn’t feel authentic when I try to do it. That might be something to explore….
