Making Time for Scrapping

Sometimes, the thing I find the most difficult about getting some scrapping done is finding the time to do it. Between my full time job as an Assistant Principal and my family, I don’t always have a lot of spare time hanging around to put together a page or two. I often get asked, “How to you find time to do it all, and still scrap?” The truth of the matter is, for a long time, I didn’t. I worked to maintain my “out of the computer” life. I all but gave up scrapping altogether. I would often think to myself, I just don’t have the time. So for almost a year, I have absolutely NO layouts of anything. None of the memories I have of my family are preserved. Isn’t that why most of us scrap?

Around this time, I had a conversation about the idea of “it’s not a priority.” When I was busy saying, “I have no time”, I was really saying, “It’s not a priority right now.” If something was important to get done, I would clearly find the time to do it. Saying that I didn’t have time was just giving an excuse. If I wanted to make sure I was preserving my families’ memories, then I needed to make it a priority.

If scrapping is a priority for you, I’ve got a list of 9 Creative Ways to Make Time for Scrapping. Check it out.

9 Creative Ways to Make Time for Scrapping

  1. Treat it as a reward – Got some housework done for the day? Let yourself scrap for 30 minutes.
  2. Do a little each night – Batch scrapping is when you do one specific step on multiple layouts at a time, I do this regularly.
  3. Set aside a day each week, free of other obligations – Maybe Sunday afternoons you scrap, no matter what.
  4. Do it when the feeling strikes, no matter what – This is kind of drastic, but when you feel it, put aside everything else.
  5. Schedule it in. Add it to your To Do List – If you are a schedule fanatic like me, this can really help to get everything done.
  6. Set a goal to strive for – “I am going to do 12 layouts this month” that will keep you motivated and moving
  7. Join a Creative Team – Make scrapping a job.
  8. Team up with a friend – Keep each other on track.
  9. Find unconventional times to scrap – Stay up an hour later, get up an hour earlier.
