Hi friends!!! It’s Monica here to talk to you a little about loving your “selfie”.
Are you comfortable taking self-portraits? OR Do you view them as self-indulgent and frivolous?
Last week I participated in a “self-portrait community project” hosted by scrapbooker Ali Edwards called “Pieces of Us”. Each day there was a prompt for taking a selfie. The prompts were feet, hands, face forward, eyes closed, half-face, full-body, and reflection. While I am fairly comfortable with taking selfies, this project really challenged me!
I was challenged to grow in my self-portrait skills and in accepting myself and my body with all of its flaws. I was also inspired by seeing all of the amazing selfies that were shared on Instagram through the community that formed around this project.
Even though it was hard, I took a photo for the prompts each day. I decided to convert each selfie to black and white and create a layout with all of them at the end of the week.
Here is the layout I created using From the Heart No. 2 by Designed by Soco and Just Jaimee’s February 2020 Storyteller Collection:
Now, I want to share with you four reasons WHY I believe you should take more selfies and four tips for taking them.
The WHY of taking selfies:
- to tell YOUR story
- to get yourself in more photos
- to play with your camera
- to practice loving yourself and treating yourself with kindness and compassion
Selfie Tips
- use a tripod and remote shutter
- consider lighting
- try different angles
- take LOTS of shots to choose from
But my biggest why and tip all rolled up in one is to JUST HAVE FUN!! Take more selfies because they are fun and light-hearted! Also, my biggest tip for taking a selfie that you love is to have fun while you’re doing it!!
I believe what I wrote in the journaling for the layout I made of my selfies for YOU as well…YOU are worth it and YOUR presence matters!
