Hi Pad Scrappers!
Polly Liana here with a really cool hybrid project that incorporates a current trend in papercrafting: galaxy backgrounds. This technique involves using inks or pigments blended together to create a funky cool realistic looking galaxy on paper. Have a look at how I did it:
Things you’ll need:
smooth white paper
blending pigment inks (I used Distress Oxide ink pads– they have a great feature that works well for this technique)
ink sponge blending tool
a small water spritzing bottle
a thin white pen
First, cut your paper into a circle shape (I used a die cutter):
Then, pick three or four colors to feature in your galaxy. I started with Mustard seed, blended in one quadrant of the circle:
Then I added Worn Lipstick:
Broken China was next:
And Wilted Violet:
I then blended Soot around the outside rim of the circle:
Slowly and carefully, I pulled the ink into the center, leaving some of the color to peek out:
Then I went around the outside one more time with black:
I then dripped tiny droplets of water on my galaxy and dabbed them with a paper towel to lift some of the pigment:
Then I added some tiny white dots with my pen:
I added a doll from Rebecca McMeen’s Celeste collection here and layered it with a shimmer paper cut with an SVG file from Scrapping With Liz’s Cut Out Backgrounds kit here.
Love the way it turned out! Check out some other examples of galaxy backgrounds here and give it a try!
Have a great end to your week,
