I just pushed the imaginary brake on the passenger's side, hung on for dear life, and prayed....

Two down and one to go.

I made my husband go with my son. I still can't ride in the front with him yet. He's finally eligible to get his license next month (you have to have your permit 9 months)... just in time for my newly 15 year old daughter to start driver's ed. :dizzy

But they're both going to learn to drive in the city of Chicago, so I'm hoping this means that they'll be able to drive anywhere after this!

I have to say all of the above.
Eyes tightly closed, stomping on the non-existent brake, hanging onto the door handle as if my life depended on it.
Praying fervently.
Little white pills.
Two down, one to go.
Tried getting hubby to do it.
The third one is a girl - tell me it gets better?

How I survived? Let's just say my experiences did not involve normal such things like driving schools or having an ex teach my children to drive...

#1 child did not learn to drive til he was 18+ because he had been living in a country where you could not drive until 18. Not a great idea because by 18 you often (not always!) have the sense to know how dangerous driving can be!

#2 child On the day he was eligible for a learner's permit, he had me up before dawn. When we got the paperwork from the MVA he announced to me that he had 2plus years of driving experience because his best friend's uncle had owned the Mercedes dealership in X country, and they always could have cars to joyride in the desert. I had to admit he had a point...Oddly enough as an adult, he prefers to let others drive. He likes to take photos and videos of the trip!

#3 child Let's just say her teen years and 20s were interesting. Learning to drive was the least of my issues with her and there was no way in hell I would let her near my car. Finding her gone and my car a couple of blocks away were not uncommon occurances. However, there came a time when the police came to tell me she (around 25) had arrived in MD from Orlando FL without a license and with a teenager in the car. Later she told me that the only problem on that long dangerous drive was that she had lost her glasses and it was kinda hard to see. Really??? Today, she has a license and insurance and is a cautious driver.

This was good to remember because there are times I wonder if my life was as crazy as I imagine and yes, it was and my xh missed most of it being out of the country with his 2nd wife!

I seriously had no problems with my daughter on this... We a have a driveway that's literally a mile long with wooded property on both sides. I just had her drive up and down the driveway until she was safe to hit the road. And honestly, she did great. A year later and she is driving like a pro and not afraid to hit the big cities either.

Love your video - how fun! I'm not quite there yet - my oldest is 11 and quite the rule follower - I am more worried for the 2nd child - but we will see as we get closer. Excited to see your collection!

I'm very glad that in the Netherlands kids can only legally learn to drive with certified driving instructors, NOT with parents in their own cars. I would not be able to survive that, I think. I'm not a hero in a car, never have. Even though lately, I've been driving more then ever and am relearning all those tricks I had forgotten.

Anyway, if this would have been real for me, I think I would have yell like Lydia from Teen Wolf. :)

My youngest just got her license this year. Crazy!! My oldest was easy - she was a very good driver right from the beginning. My middle was a little harder - and my husband did most of the driving with her. My youngest - well, I just wasn't ready for her to have her license (although she goes to school outside of our community so it is nice not having to drive her anymore!!) I just tried my hardest to stay calm while they were driving. Limit our conversations. Keep the radio turned down. Ugh - not my favorite!!

BTW - that video was super cute and creative!! :)
