So my kid was playing with my hair and stumbled upon an old scar. It made me wonder, do you have scars? How did you get them?

Mine comes from a Hammock. My friend was on the hammock, and she wanted me to sit by her. I did, and that's when we learned the swingset pole holding the hammock up was not securely in the ground! It tipped over and hit me smack on the head. An ambulance ride (someone overreacted and called 911 the hospital was only 8 minutes away.) and some staples later and I still have a scar today. And my hair grows weird right there - not quite straight.

I have a strange scar on my cheek from when I was born. Evidently the doctor doing the C-section on my mom cut my cheek. It looks like an inverted line but it doesn't look like a typical scar. Most people don't notice (or are too polite to say something!)

I got some gnarly scars on my right knee earlier this year. First time I ever needed stitches! I tripped on the sidewalk while running. That was an interesting walk home! A van stopped and the driver gave me a wad of paper towels to clean up and stanch the bleeding.

I feel like I could write a book. I had breast cancer 18 years ago and mastectomy and reconstruction. Later an incision they made in my stomach didn't heal so it became a hernia and whoever closed just poured in a big think of dermabond which I'm allergic to or react to weird so it ended up falling out and I have a big old keloid (scar that built up more than it needed to). Scar from my port, scar on my back where a tiny fibroma was taken out and it went into a big keloid. And then a few more.

I have several scars from past surgeries and a car accident. Also from childhood - one in particular, a scar on my knee from playing basketball and falling on my knee.

That's so weird! Not the scar, but I never would have thought that could happen!

And then a few more.
Wow! You've got a lot of stories!

It's always the random things! I have a small indent scar on the side of head where my glasses sit. I fell off my bike, hit the curb, and my glasses pinched the edge of my face.

Oh yes. Childhood eyebrow gashes are on each of my siblings and my face. Ha. I've cut one finger on a piece of glass, and cut one with a knife, also. I have a scar on my belly button from trying to pierce myself. I've had my wrist piercing removed, so that's a scar... I'm appalled at it now, but in Jr high, my group of friends basically explained you "didn't really love someone unless you carve their name into yourself" (thankfully, i didn't contract anything, and also I didn't really know what I was doing, because the cuts I made didn't turn into scars. My mother would have murdered me herself if she'd found out probably... as a mother now, I am horrified. Lol)

Other than the one in my forehead and the mosquito bite that turned into a scar I don't have anything else...... oh wait, my hernia surgery and the one for removing a fat mass from under my breast.... I am going to stop thinking about these because maybe I'll remember something else.

Um, let's see.

Scar on my knee from when my dad's dog bit me
Scar on my index finger from when I got my finger stuck in a pop can
Scar on another finger from when I broke a bowl in my hand
Scar on my ring finger from the infamous avocado incident last summer
Scar on my knee from when our first Weimaraner bolted across a sidewalk and drug me with her
Scar on my toe from when a bed frame fell on it and I had to get 5 stitches
And various little scars from when I had the chicken pox.

That might be it. But tomorrow is another day.

The first scar that I remember getting is very close to my left eye. Back in the olden days, you know, the 1960's, I was hit by a metal swing that my sister was swinging on. Stitches were involved. Another scar on my leg when I tripped over a tent stake while camping. My sisters accused me of staging that one. Apparently, there was a competition to see who could use the biggest bandaid first. I guess I won that one. One more from my tubal ligation after my last baby, 1987. I had carpel tunnel surgery 3 years ago, but no scar.

Scar on my upper lip - fell off the back steps and landed on an iron grate at the bottom. Went through my lip. Unless I point it out, you'll not likely see it.

Have a scar from my c-section, but um, it's hidden. bwahahahahaha

And I have a large scar on my back from my back surgery when I was 21.

Scar on my cheek from Chicken Pox as a little girl
Scar on my thumb from closing it in the car door when I was about 4
Scar on my knee from falling a sharp rock when I was about 6
Scar on my ankle from skateboarding down a steep hill as a teenager
Scar on my foot from setting a trash bag with glass in it down on my bare foot
And a tiny scar just inside my belly button from my tubal ligation :)

My bottom lip has a scar, along with my cheek, right under my left eye. They aren't totally visible scars, because I had to have plastic surgery on my face/mouth when I was a teenager. You can usually see them when I cry and/or turn red. My lip has a permanent bump from this injury.

The scar story.... After school one day in Jr. High, I was walking with friends, and slipped on the wood chips by our school's bike racks. I fell on my face, and my top teeth went through my bottom lip, and gashed under my eye very deeply. I was knocked out, and came to when my friends were trying to bring me into the school. I looked down at my favorite pink shirt, saw ALL the blood, and promptly passed out again. Off to the plastic surgeon! Thank goodness!

Otherwise, I have oodles of tiny/smaller ones. I seem to have really bad reactions when it comes to bug bites on my arms only (odd). My bites become raised, red, itchy, and leave marks. Over time they fade, and start to blend in with my freckles. I also have a couple dog bite scars.

oh sadly, I have lots. Mosquito bites, klutz and a surgery on my right foot. I was born with club feet and they had to cut my Achilles tendon because it wasn't long enough to allow my foot movement.

As a side note, I had no idea what club feet actually looked like until I googled it! Uh, ok, glad there were no pictures and I am amazed that I have little evidence of having it!

@carilyne, I have some post-surgery scarring too. I have a keloid scar running from my belly button to my pubic bone. Long, and not tragic story, but I had to have my uterus removed two years ago. When the doctor took the scary metal staples out 8 days after surgery, everything looked OK. Then, she noticed a tiny bit of fluid in one of the staple holes, she just lightly touched, and the whole incision split down to the fascia. I had to heal from the bottom up. I had to get the would repacked and bandaged every day for two weeks, and then every other day for another two weeks. Not gonna lie, it's a little scary looking. Still, the recovery pain over the two months I was off work was less than what I used to feel in a single monthly period.

Oh wow that's a scar! That's basically what the hole had to do. But at least I didn't have to have it packed. Glad it eliminated the other pain. Glad it healed. Mine are getting less noticeable. it's just the old style that left lots of scars. Oh well no bikini for me.

I have quite a few scars, but most are very small and faint and probably no one but me would even notice they are there.

I have a scar on one shin that is about 1.5 inches long and about 1/4 inch wide, from falling on a broken Manzanita trunk/branch when I was a kid. But it is faint.

I have a mole on my neck that I swear came from a chicken pock.

I have a couple of favorite crescent shaped scars on my fingers from grating cheese ... I'm not sure why I like them so much. I guess because their shape is so indicative of where they came from.

The ones that are the most visible are the ones on my knuckles from when I fell with my bicycle into the wall next to me. I thought I could ride it down this really narrow pathway next to our garage (like I did every day for years and would do for many years longer) but on that day or somehow wasn't as easy.

I have a few scars. I was badly burned right after I learned to walk. I split my eyebrow with a crowbar playing in cement from some project in the neighbourhood. One under my chin from getting hit by a car and I have one under my hair like @bestcee from a car accident, where the hair grows kinda wierd. I consider them badges of courage and a life well lived.

scars....where do I start?..having had multiple surgeries (none from broken bones though) from the time I was born til I was 15 I have plenty (mostly facial and skull scars, one big huge one -ribs to belly button from weight loss surgery, hidden incision where doctors took rib cartilage to rebuild my nose, scars on my left foot from surgery, an extra scar on my right foot and left inner elbow from vein access during one of my surgeries). I also have countless from mosquito bites
