Hi all, it is Marilyn here, posting on behalf of Rachel. Her life is a bit hectic right now and I'm retired. :-)

But before we get into this month's challenge, let's congratulate last month's winners.
The random December challenge winners are @Janisn winning the $10 coupon and @Angela Toucan
winning the $6 coupon. Congratulations! Rachel will be in touch via a PM with your coupon codes ASAP.

Without further ado, here's Rachel:

Hi Everyone!

Happy New Year to you and welcome to a brand new year of Mixed Media Challenges!! :clap

For January I thought it would be really nice to take a trip down memory lane and re-visit the challenges from 2021. The team worked really hard on putting these together and there is lots of interesting content to re-read.

So your challenge for Jan 2022 is to re-visit last years challenges, and pick at least one challenge to complete again with a brand new page :bunny

Here is a re-cap of the challenges so it's easy for you to find them:

Dec - Tag Template Challenge

Nov - Shape Challenge

Oct - Nature Challenge

Sept - Celebrate you and your current age

Aug - Scrap Your Stash Challenge

July - Textures Challenge

June - Creating Backgrounds Technique

May - Use a Brush or Pattern on your Photo

Apr - Digital Nature Wall

Mar - Scraplift

Feb - Love themed recipe challenge

Jan - Art Journaling

Challenge Requirements:

* Your layout must be comprised of 100% Rachel Jefferies products; 90% must be currently available in her store. You may use up to 10% of retired products.
* You may use items from Mixed Media Monthly collections of which Rachel was a part.
* Upload your layout to the Rachel Jefferies Designs Gallery at TLP and list the products used in your credits.
* For your challenge entry to be counted, you MUST upload your finished layout to this thread. Please link your thread to your gallery image as it helps us leave love on your layout (and, validate your project).
* Please note which 2021 Challenge you have re-created!
* No double-dipping…your layout must be used for this challenge only, no others. You must create a new layout for this challenge.
* This challenge will remain open through the end of 31st Jan 2022.

Prizes:
Two lucky artists will be randomly drawn to win an $8 coupon to Rachel Jefferies shop. :clappy

If you have any questions just tag me and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I managed to have to do this two times - all for snagging the wrong layer an then falling in love with what it did. *facepalm* So, first is the entirely compliant LO; followed by the version I'll print - I just love that bird peeking out from under the layers and he only appeared when I used a gradient on the background with that gesso layer on top. I had to shut all the layers off until I figured out where he came from!

And the non-compliant one with the surprise bird:

WOW, did I learn a lot with this LO. First, I love messing with the backgrounds and could get lost here all day (I actually started with the MOC10 day 12 challenge). And then I figured out how to blur and sharpen my image, to take a "meh" photo and make the subject really pop.

I chose February and the love themed recipe challenge:
  • Quote about love
  • At least three (3) paper/fabric pieces
  • thread
  • heart
  • paint
  • art marks
  • flowers
  • foliage

I'm not sure where the quote came from but I like it and it applies to my children and grandchildren (2 of whom are in the photo).

I noticed that I didn't find chance to do the November challenge last year with the triangle shape, so I've taken the opportunity to try it today.

My 11+ mixed media items are:
  • 5 word pieces
  • Stitched Mixed Media Stack piece 2b
  • 2 labels.
  • 1 textured overlay
  • 2 messy threads
  • 3 leafy stamps
  • 3 paints
  • Month stamp & marker
  • Number Stamps.
  • 1 flower
  • 1 circle piece
