Yep I've tried a few & currently use Photopea the free version but have had some issues. I still mean to try the $5/mth version (I don't know if it's AUD or USD b/cos I'm pretty sure it's hosted in Europe somewhere) to see if it overcomes at least some of those issues.
If you don't want to use templates from our designers or just want to use them as a sketch, Canva can work but it has issues & limitations as well. They are always adding bells & whistles but they're not really digiscrap useful IMHO & the layers capability can be frustrating if you are a lots of layers, use everything scrapper that likes masks and blend modes.
I'm currently looking at RAW handling & processing prog options instead of Lightroom and the whole photography & design world seems annoyed with the subscription model & Adobe's price gouging so there's a lot of new options but it takes time to research and try everything but I feel your pain.
And re: PSE I saw mentioned above. Last I checked in Aus, PSE you pay a one off fee (I want to say it was a round the $300 mark AUD) & that gives U access to PSE for 3 yrs but it was unclear to me whether they forced you to upgrade after that to still access your files. You do not own the program. It seemed like a bond you don't get back in case that helps
