Pad Patter: 8/21 - Nationality

I'm a mix of welsh, scottish, danish and french... or so I'm told. Most of my ancestors came to America pre-revolution, so we've been all mixed up for a while. :)

French-Canadian on both sides
I've got the 4 families traced back to the early 1700's when the first person of each lineage came to Canada. I know two lines are probably of French Basque origin, the other 2 I'm not sure where in France they came from.

I am a mutt... I have lots of English and Scottish, with a little German and Dutch mixed in and I think some Irish too.

To me the term "nationality" indicates your country's citizenship and not your ethnic background. I've had people ask me my "nationality" and I always answer "American"! :yesss

Then the person who asks usually gives me an exasperated look because they don't know how else to ask the question.

And I answer "My ethnic background is Chinese." My dad is Taiwanese but my mom is from China. Her family moved to Taiwan when she was in 1st grade.

Hmm I suppose you are technically right, there, Miss Picky Pants. :giggle

I probably couldn't have spelled ethnicity though, so it's just as well.

I'm mutt!

We have lots of German, some Dutch, English, Irish and Cherokee Indian thrown in to the mix. No exciting tales to tell about someone born overseas and came over on the boat....we do have pictures of my "7 greats grandparents" though who were leaders of their tribe.... Complete with their headdress. That's as exciting as my heritage gets.

My dad is big on genealogy and has it traced back pretty far.

You know I really don't know. Was working on a genealogy book for my kids several years ago but never really looked into "WHERE" they all come from. Maybe someday.

Dutch... But my Grandma is 100% indosian, which makes me about 20% I guess... Then it seems my biological grandfather (who we've never met) was 100% Italian...so another 20%? LOL... Other then that I'm just dutch :D hehe

I'm SO GLAD you got to be the "Miss Picky Pants", lol, because I've been reading through this thread thinking, "This is about ethnicity, not nationality," lol, but I was afraid of being mocked if I mentioned it.

My husband says I have redneck blood, lol. All I know is that my families have been here long enough to have forgotten where they came from. My MIL, though, has traced my husband's family all the way back to Jesus, pretty much, so my kids are a mix of Irish and redneck, lucky dogs.

German and Indian here. (A scary combination, trust me!) LOL~

So ethnicity --- Scottish/Irish on my mom's side. We have the most documented genealogy for my maternal grandfather's family roots. If I remember correctly the Allison's came over from Paisley, Scotland around the 1860s. Can you believe my mom's maiden name was Alice Allison? What were my grandparents thinking?

On my dad's side - German/English.

Scottish, English and Latvian on one side....

the other is a mix. A little of this, and a little of that.

Heinz 57!

I'm almost all English. Like 75 percent. Not that you can tell from my pale-as-can-be skin, green eyes, and difficulty with heat or anything. :giggle

Besides English, some Welsh, Scottish, Irish, and maybe a little German.

Ethnicity: 1/2 Ukrainian, the other half is a mix of Irish, Scottish, and English.

But nationality: all Canadian!

scottish on my Mum's side.
we are yet to determine if it is English or Irish on Dad's side. There is German in there too

Mutt here too. Irish, French, Scottish, Spanish, German, Welsh and Mexican.

My great grandfather was Francisco Romero Garcia de la Sierra and he married Molly Murphy. :)

To my daughter's mutt heritage, my husband added Italian and Lithuanian. Phew!
