Nicknames. When I was a kid I wanted a nickname so bad! I had friends with nicknames - Melissa/Mel; Rebecca/Becky/; Jacque/Jac & siblings with nicknames - Nathan/Nate Dustin/Dut. It seemed everyone but my friend Sue had a nickname. And really, how do you nickname Sue? For awhile, I got Cory because my little brother couldn't say "nt" sound. My aunt Laura called me "Courty" Which I didn't care for since it felt babyish the way she said it. And people picking on me went with "Corny".

I never really got a nickname that stuck. Some people will call me Court, like my sister and that's cool. For awhile in high school there were two Courtneys. She went by Ceecee, so my friends would call me Cee (also where 'best cee' comes from :giggle). I don't introduce myself that way though, as an official nickname. I no longer worry about having a nickname. I answer to most anything.

What about you? Do you have a nickname? Is it a shorter version of your name? Or a silly name you were given? Were you like me and wanted a nickname? Or do you hate having a nickname?

first name is Joanne so I got the standard "Jo" and once in a while "Joey". I hate JoJo and would tell people not to call me that or correct them, thankfully it wasn't many. My brother has shortened my name to just my initial "j" that's where the 'jaye' in the forums have come from.

I sometimes call you Court, but mostly it's Courtney. Hope you don't mind the "Court."

The only one I had was Sherbyl (rhymes with gerbil) but I can't remember how that came to be. My cousin still calls me that from time to time. I've had people call me Cher, which I don't like at all. I do love Cher the singer, but I just don't want to be called that.

Standard Jenn/Jenny/J - any will work, lol!
A lot of people in college called my by my maiden name - Kennelly (sounds like Ken-elly).
My Dad called me Ifer - he felt the last part of my name was underused. :giggle

My name, Dawn, is another one that doesn't really lend itself well to nicknames. I've been called Dawny & Dawnels, which I don't mind but are kinda goofy. I had a friend call me 3D for a while which I kinda like. My Dad had a whole bunch of silly ones like Lawn. :D My sister would try to annoy me (and it usually worked since I was the younger sibling) by calling me Dawn the Pawn.

Because of this, I very deliberately chose names for my kids that have nicknames! My son is Daniel (Danny, Dan) and my daughter is Juliana (Julie, Julia, Jules). My daughter has the most nicknames, tho, since we call her any combination of Juju, Jooj, Shushu, Shushi, Sushi, Mooshi and many more. She answers to any and all but does not like being called Julia (she goes by Julie, which she says is a 40 year old mom name. :D).

Only my Dad called me "Chris"... until I got to Jr. High and the one Science teacher called me Chris.. I would allow him to do so as he looked like a Grandfather figure and was so sweet.. I truthfully hated anyone calling me "Chrissy" that would annoy me so really as far as nicknames, nope none for me.

Now if I am at Starbucks I say my name is Chris as it is easier not to get it messed up LOL!

Stefanie - Stef. In high school it would be "fets" which sounds like Afrikaans for fat so I hated that.
Mom, Mommy, Love all work too.

Never really had a nickname but I have a younger cousin that couldn't say Rene' so he shortened it to "Nay". By the time he went to school, he used my whole name. It was just that he had trouble with the first syllable of my name.

If I go somewhere that requires a name, I have always used my last name since for the longest time I would the "??" look when I would say my name. Last name is a common word so most people have no problem with spelling it!

I mostly got Meg or Megs from a lot of people but had a couple odd ones. Back when I was in high school, my friends dad would call me Magnum instead of Megan because he watched Magnum P.I. And I had an uncle call me Megpie whenever I would see him. My great-aunt would call me Meggie-poo on a daily :lmao

I get Jen or Jenn or Jenny. I don’t so much mind Jen or Jenn but hate Jenny. For some reason Jenny just seems too old fashioned to me. I have actually used a nickname professionally as there were a Jennifer already at a call centre I worked at so I chose to use Jen on the phones to ease confusion.

I've been a grandma for 25 years and my grandkids have always called me Cici. Now almost everybody (including adults) call me Cici.

My full name is Susan, and for most of my life I was called Susie by my family and Susan by everyone else. I have decided to be Susie now. I despise the nickname Sue as my brother used to call me a pig and do the "SUEY!!!" sound at me. I will correct it every time. Suz...I can handle but I will say I prefer Susan or Susie.

In real life I'm Elizabeth. My mom did not like any nicknames for Elizabeth when growing up so she wouldn't let anyone call me anything else. Although we did have some close friends and neighbors that also had an Elizabeth (she was a couple of years younger than me) and I was known as Big Elizabeth and she was Little Elizabeth. So for several years of my life (prob from about 8-14 I was known as Big Elizabeth - and I really wasn't any bigger than her!). LOL!

When I got older and started doing stuff online it just seemed easier to type Liz...therefore online I became known as Liz.

What's funny is my kid has a name that can be shortened - Matthew. And his friends and cousins call him Matt. But I don't. His dad and I both call him Matthew.

Hubby's family did this... he was always Peter... when we started dating, he was Pete... but then after time, (i don't even think I realized it), I started calling him Peter. It's a joke now.

My cousin's wife was determined that her children would not have nicknames when she had her first baby in 1980. She decided that Allison Kay was a good name. Guess who first started calling her "Ali Kay"... yep, Mom. 2nd daughter was named Ashley who is now called Ash by most of the family.

That cousin's sister didn't care about nicknames but then she was named Sue Ann not Susan. When she had her kids she named them Jasper, Jarvis and Jordan. None of them have nicknames!

Lol, well, ironically, my son never wanted to be known by a nickname either. He wanted Daniel. Until about junior year of highschool, he had his friends call him Danny. But I still mostly call him Daniel. But, that was sort of the point for me -- for him to have options., whether he uses them or not.
