What are everyone's plans for ringing in the New Year?

We used to go to my aunt's and celebrate with a huge open house where we watched movies, played games, and finished with fireworks at midnight. Then, of course, the who can stay up the latest contest. This year, I think we are going to have a quiet at home night. DH has to work graves (7pm -7am) tonight, and the 1st. So, he has the 31st off, but coming off shift is hard. Especially to go back the next night!

We are having fondue, and some shrimp. And munchkin wants to make cookies, so we will do that. Maybe watch a movie, and play a game. I'm hoping that someone nearby does fireworks that we can see, because I think the Las Vegas Strip ones will be too far away!

What about you? Any traditions?

I think my kids might be growing out of our old tradition of banging on pots with wooden spoons while parading around the house singing loudly. LOL Other than that we've spent most new year eves at home, just being together, eating finger foods for dinner, relaxing.

Happy 2017 everyone! :happy

Just hanging out at home like always :) We have noise makers and poppers, and we'll have some snacks, then we'll probably watch some "top ____ of 2016 videos". So exciting :giggle But that's how we like it! We have a small ball drop thing here in our town (they made a ball out of old CDs and they drop it from a the top of a ladder on a fire truck haha), but I don't like standing out in the cold in a crowd of people when I'd just much rather be with my family.

We are going to a friend's (or rather friends') house. Last year they came here. We'll play Qwirkle while the kids play. Then we'll eat and go home (life with young kids lol). After the kids are in bed, I bet DH and I stay up until 10, cuz that's late for us. :)
We aren't big party people so tomorrow is as exciting as we get. We got some beer and spirits for when we get home (hosts don't drink). That's just a wild time here! ;)

We're pretty lame, so we just have our traditional dinner of homemade alfredo with chicken (Tim uses seafood instead). He will fall asleep somewhere between 8-10. We'll probably play Ticket to Ride or other games. I generally try to force Tim and Jessica to fill out forms for the New Year, and they may or may not do them. I'm usually the only one awake at midnight. :giggle

We have fondue on New Year's Day. :)

I couldn't tell you the last time I stayed up on New Year's Eve to midnight (actually I can't tell you the last time I stayed up to midnight at all). I have always been an early evening girl so no big tradition for me.

We are home-bodies for this holiday. We usually do a cheese fondue but just did it Christmas Eve - was going to do a chocolate fondue on new year's eve but we are all starting our new year diets today (instead of waiting) -so we are passing on that too. So we'll have some kind of healthy meal ... if the weather is OK maybe a hike during the day and then in the evening we can see if there are any firework shows - we live on a big hill and can see for miles and miles into the valley. Just enjoying the last few days of winter break with the family and no early morning alarm clocks. :)

Watch the ball drop on TV (if I can stay up that late!!), have a dessert and sparkling soda party with my family - complete with poppers, silly hats and noisemakers. This year my DD has a gala to skate in on January 1, so she'll not be staying up too late!

We usually stay home. I'm not a big crowd person and don't have the tolerance to stand for long periods of time, so we stay home and watch the ball drop in Times Square, and then an hour later, watch the Pelican Drop in our hometown. Well, I say we . . . Jay, Daniel and I. Olivia will be out with friends tomorrow night and I think she will be going downtown. I usually make hot chocolate and we hoop and holler for a few minutes at midnight. LOL

The Pelican is made of aluminum, stands 14 feet tall, has 2000 individually crafted feathers, weighs 400 pounds fully adorned with 1600 lights, and it will be hoisted 95 feet above downtown Pensacola and then dropped for the countdown to 2017.

Staying at home also except to run to the airport to pick up my son. We'll eat something yummy because my daughter and her fiance like to cook, maybe play a game. I'll be looking forward to waking up on the first because MOC!

Year #3 of us hosting a big NYE party! part of me is exited and the other dreading the lack of sleep!! Last year I was still cleaning up at 3am lol

But - both of my adult sons show up and bring friends and there is a part of me that just loves that part so I suffer through! :)

At midnight - we release wish lanters (like Tangled) - - it is so pretty

exactly this....i'm usually tucked up in bed by 10 or so

We've never had new years eve traditions and I was just thinking about that last night. We don't make a big deal of it for the kids either. I'll be watching the thread for ideas to implement next year though!

I am going to be Rip Van Winkle.. I am going to go to sleep in 2016 and wake up in 2017! :) Happy New Year everyone!

Very cool Cheryl!! Thanks for including the gorgeous photos!!

We're at our place in Michigan, and have always had my in-laws (and a rotating cast of other family members) here for NYE. But this year it's just the four of us. Since my BIL got divorced, he (and his girls if he has them) have become a package deal with my in-laws. Last year he didn't have the girls, so he came alone with them. This year he has them and we just don't have enough room for that many people in the winter. In the summer it works since everyone is outside most of the time, but winter is tough. We tried to make up for not hosting them by being at my in-laws on actual Christmas Day this year (which we haven't done in nearly 10 years). I'm sure we'll still get some grief about it though.

Anyway... our NYE is always a night of snack foods and games. We tried to talk the kids into going to the teen dance party at the resort but they won't have it. We'll walk over to the mountain around 11:45 for the torchlight parade down the mountain and the fireworks at midnight. Alex is 16 which means he's old enough to carry a torch this year so he wants to do that. I think Clara might ski down with him even though she can't carry a torch yet.

We usually get Chinese takeout, but I'm not sure what we'll do tonight because we still haven't found a new favorite Chinese place since our favorite closed a few years ago. We've tried several, but nothing compares. I did buy a shrimp ring, so we'll have that. Maybe we'll switch from Chinese to Mexican food. We all love Cafe Rio, so maybe that'll become our new tradition.

We'll be home tonight and will play games, watch a movie or put a puzzle together. Hubby likes to watch the ball drop, but I only watch that if I'm still awake. Sometimes our teens have friends over, but my dd says she doesn't want to host anything this year and her friends haven't planned anything so who knows... we may end up with a house full of teens or just the 4 of us.
