January 6: Dispersion (Technique Challenge)

Jan 6 - Dispersion
Had some problems but gave it the old college try

someone asked for a PSE tutorial. I'm working on my layout right now, but found some youtube videos that might help.
Beware of the creepy puppet in the first one, but I did like how he got the dispersion effect and I'm using the duplicated subjects in my rendering of the dispersion.
Note: in PSE 11 and newer the brush options are at the bottom in the tool options.

And this one shows you how to use content-aware in PSE. (No puppets - thank goodness)
Note: He uses the marquee tool, but you can use the lasso or whatever tool you want.

FYI: The Liquify filter is under Filter > Distort > Liquify in PSE.

Hope these help others.

@keepscrappin Awww, I thought the puppet was cute!!! NOT!! Yeah, he was creepy!!

Well I must say, you all are giving this a go for the money!! Love the effects I am seeing, and the awesome layouts!!!!

This was SO much fun! I actually did something like 4 different photos before I finally came back to the very first photo I played with, re-warped the base image for the splatter so I could pull the color from her blouse down in front of her legs, and voila! Finally something I'm happy with. :) Thank you for pushing me outside my comfort zone.

@IntenseMagic Here's the video of my Watch Cheryl Scrap LIVE! Monday night where I completed this challenge - if you want to share in your first post in case watching might help someone complete the challenge. :)

@gduncan Oh, my friend, I just read your post and saw your layout back on page 10 and I just want to give you a HUG!! I am pretty sure that our wonderful admin. is going to accept anything in this challenge, as long as the person at least tried!! And try you did!! It took me awhile to learn dispersion way back when and I only have PSE 11. Never touched Photoshop!! I haven't done it in awhile and had difficulties remembering how to do it with my layout. So for everyone out there, give it a shot!! PLEASE don't get discouraged! Everyone is here to help! Just look at all the help that is in this thread alone!!!! HUGS HUGS HUGS!!!!!

So, moving on, here is my layout. Not excited about it, but its ok. Its been awhile since I have done a dispersion layout and its like I had to learn all over again. A friend that lives in Viet Nam sent me this photo of the palm trees just as the last typhoon was starting to hit.

Hello everyone! This is my take on the MOC6 Day 06 challenge: using the dispersion technique. The photo depicts a statue of King Kamehameha, former king of Hawai'i who united the islands, creating the kingdom of Hawai'i. Later, under leadership of Queen Lili'uokalani, the kingdom was illegally overthrown and eventually annexed by the United States in 1898. I tried to convey in my layout how King Kamehameha is losing grip of his country, his kingdom, his people, how it is scattering away. Behind him, the Hawaiian anthem is fading.
Helpful criticism is always welcome! Thanks!

So as I was reading a comment on my LO in the gallery, I noticed that you couldn't even SEE my dispersion...went back to check my LO in GIMP...and some how I must have made the dispersion invisible while I adding shadows....so I fixed that and uploaded again....

Here's mine:

I had to just let it out into the universe... I fancy myself a decent photoshopper, but I had such a hard time finding a photo to start with! I clearly just don't take enough photos that feel action packed to me!!

Huggles!!
~Sarah~

I dreaded doing this one because I dont use photoshop and its hard finding like tutorials sometimes for paintshop pro but I was determined not to be undone and I hunkered down and gave it my best attempt. I think it turned out okay? Will totally love to practice more with this when i have more time.
